Aftermarket door handle covers — fitting and gluing

Tags: #aliexpress · #price

Aftermarket door-handle covers from Chinese sellers (e.g. AliExpress) usually need fitting work: (1) inspect the piece — the plastic is hard/rigid; (2) file/sand the internal edges where the cover contacts the door-lock mechanism — use a proper file or a small circular saw, as basic home tools are inadequate; (3) remove the small screw from the door-lock trim to access the lock base; (4) test-fit multiple times while adjusting; (5) apply cyanoacrylate glue (Cosmophen CA-500 or similar super glue) using an insulin syringe, running a thin line around the perimeter only; (6) avoid dripping glue on the paint/clear coat. Installation requires patience — the final result should be a snug fit ¹²³⁴⁵⁶.

Cover fell off — reattachment: the exterior door-handle chrome cover/trim can fall off in service (a known issue — some units arrive loose from the factory). Fix: use Cosmofene adhesive to reattach it. If the cover is lost or damaged, replacement parts are available on AliExpress (~12 days delivery); both the adhesive and replacement parts are inexpensive ^{78910111213141516}.

Cosmophene gluing procedure (detailed): the decorative door-handle cover tends to fall off over time, especially after ice damage. Solution: clean the contact surface thoroughly, then apply Cosmophen (industrial cyanoacrylate sealant) with an insulin syringe for precision, running it carefully around the perimeter only, applying it only to the recess so it doesn't contact/damage the door-handle paint. The part is durable plastic and costs around 1,000 RUB (RU market, December 2024). Once glued, it holds securely through harsh weather ^{1718192021222324252627}. ⚠️ Conflict: users debated additional bolts vs. adhesive alone; the community consensus settled on Cosmophene adhesive alone as the reliable solution.

Chrome door-handle cover ornaments (AliExpress): chrome-plated door-handle cover caps/clips for the X80 are available on AliExpress (link: https://sl.aliexpress.ru/p?key=L9MuriH), listed as "FAW Besturn X80 external chrome door handle clips/covers." Price with a 45% discount: 1,074 RUB (as of 2024-12-04). Multiple owners reported ordering successfully from this link ²⁸²⁹.

Trim-piece adhesive options — Cosmophen vs. cold solder: front door-trim pieces that fall off (door handles, trim clips) can be re-attached with either: (1) Cosmophen adhesive (confirmed to hold 1+ year), or (2) cold solder/cold epoxy (held 2+ years in one report). Both are cheaper temporary-repair alternatives to sourcing OEM clips ³⁰³¹³².

Door-handle loose/falling off — Kosmophen repair: the door handle housing (where the lock is located) tends to fall off, especially on the driver's door. Fix: order a replacement from AliExpress and reinstall using Kosmophen super-glue — this ensures the handle stays attached to the plastic overlay ³³³⁴.

Exterior door handle replacement — AliExpress sourcing: if the outer door handle breaks or becomes inoperable, replacement handles (chrome-plated) are available on AliExpress for roughly 825 RUB at a 45% discount (original ~1,500 RUB) (RU market, July 2024). Installation requires removing the door panel ^35363738.

Door handle sourcing — multiple options and trim differences: the X80's complete exterior door-handle assembly is available from several sources: (1) KitZap — part number 5CA159410 for the left-front touchless/contact-sensor version, at kitzapchasti.ru; (2) OZON — complete assembly listed under FAW Pentium X80; (3) direct sellers (e.g. AutoCraft) selling non-touchless handles; (4) AliExpress for decorative/trim-only pieces. Handle design varies by model year and trim — luxury trims may include a contactless sensor, base trims are usually plain mechanical. Restyle (2019+) models may use a different handle design than pre-restyle; verify fitment before ordering ^3940414243.

Chrome trim-only covers — AliExpress (2024 listing): FAW X80 chrome/silver decorative door-handle cover/clip pieces are available on AliExpress (item key waJesi0) for roughly 823 RUB (RU market, August 2024) with a 45% discount ⁴⁴.

Touchless vs. standard handle identification: X80 door handles come in two variants: (1) standard mechanical, no finger sensor — common on base trim and pre-restyle models; (2) touchless/contactless with a capacitive finger sensor for keyless entry — found on luxury trim and some restyle versions. Touchless handles include a sensor tab under tape on the handle surface plus an extra wiring-harness connector. To identify your handle: look for the sensor tab under the tape at the handle end, and check for the additional connector cable. Restyle (2019+) models may use either variant depending on trim — verify your vehicle's original configuration before ordering a replacement ^4546474849.

Door handle excessive play — repair rather than replace: X80 door handles can develop excessive play from wear — the handle feels loose with free movement before engaging the door latch. Often caused by a broken small mechanical stop pin (концевик), which prevents the handle from locking in the open position. Remedy without a full replacement: (1) remove the handle; (2) locate the broken stop pin; (3) replace the pin or repair with strong epoxy/industrial adhesive; or (4) shim the mechanism to restore proper tension. Full handle replacement is not always necessary for pure mechanical wear ⁵⁰⁵¹.

Rear door handle/latch — replacement without panel removal: the rear door handle/latch can be replaced by unbolting it from the inside face of the door edge — the bolt is accessed from the door end/edge, so no door-panel removal is required for this job ⁵².

Replacement handle part number and write-up: an exterior door handle for the FAW X80 is listed on Ozon under article 5GA0568DX (November 2025) ⁵³. A DRIVE2 write-up covers replacing the door handle yourself on a 2018 FAW Besturn X80 2.0 L; only the link was shared ⁵⁴.
