Chrome-effect trim oxidation and cleaning
Tags: #trim
Plastic trim with a chrome-like coating develops brown spots and oxidation over time. Reported solutions, roughly in order of strength: (1) generic glass cleaner works for basic/light cleaning; (2) Mr. Muscle (Мистер Мускул) glass cleaner is more aggressive and suitable for heavier spots; (3) automotive chrome paste fills micro-cracks and gives temporary protection; (4) white (non-gel) toothpaste applied with a non-woven cloth works as a mild abrasive. Chrome-polish effects are temporary — visible spots indicate the thin chrome coating is wearing through to the plastic substrate underneath, so the underlying degradation isn't actually reversed by any of these treatments 123456789.
