Headlight assembly — removal and repair

Tags: #headlight · #part-number

Removal procedure: (1) remove the front bumper (significant disassembly); (2) remove the headlight bracket bolts; (3) unplug the connector. The right-side headlight is more accessible to remove than the left 123.

Sourcing note: replacement headlight lens covers are sometimes available as a separate item, but sourcing an original OEM cover alone (rather than the whole unit) is difficult — one owner who only cracked the cover on the right headlight could not find the cover sold separately 4.

DIY patch repair (cracked housing): one owner patched a badly damaged left headlight housing using silicone plus cyanoacrylate (superglue) as a temporary fix, intending it to last only until they got home. The patch ended up lasting 6+ months, with the housing still functioning, no moisture inside, and the seal holding 3.

Aiming/adjustment screw location: the horizontal beam-aim adjustment screw is on the headlight housing itself — on the right side of the left headlight, and on the left side of the right headlight 56.

Uneven beam pattern after bulb installation — check bulb orientation before suspecting the housing: uneven headlight beam distribution (one lens pointing right, the other up/down, or one beam higher than the other) is often caused by incorrect lamp/bulb orientation during installation rather than a headlight-body defect. Bulbs like TORCH and NGK iridium types have specific orientation marks that must be aligned vertically. Rotating the lamp 180 degrees often corrects the beam pattern without requiring headlight replacement — worth checking before assuming the housing/aiming mechanism itself is at fault 78.

Glare — bulb colour vs beam aim (opinions differ): one member with 6000 K headlights with lenses says he sees no problem once they are adjusted 9. Victor says he squints even at 4300 K and that the issue is the beam pattern rather than the colour 10. A third member says that if the headlights are aimed properly, they should not blind other drivers 11.
