Side-mirror heating — availability by trim

Tags: #mirror · #trim

Heated side mirrors are available on all X80 trim levels, including the base trim — confirmed by an owner with a base ("бомж") model who has working mirror heating ¹. Mirror heating activates together with the rear-window defrost/heating button — there is no separate switch for the mirrors ².

Warmth is not immediate: heating can take roughly 5 minutes before it's noticeably warm to the touch — one owner reported still feeling mirrors "cold" shortly after activation but confirmed real warmth after about 5 minutes, and recommends checking by hand rather than judging by feel alone right after pressing the button ³⁴⁵.

Freezes over at highway speed despite heating (cold weather): heated mirrors can still freeze/ice over at highway speeds in cold weather (-17°C and below) even with the heater enabled — the mirror-heating wire element only provides a temporary defrost, and wind plus driving speed cause it to refreeze quickly. This is reported as expected winter behavior in general (not X80-specific); running the rear-window/mirror heater helps but doesn't fully prevent it ⁶⁷.
