Trunk floor reinforcement using plywood (DIY)

The factory trunk floor is weak and can sag or crack under load, especially in the area over the spare wheel well — an owner asked the community how others had reinforced it.1

DIY fix. Cut a sheet of 18mm plywood to the shape/perimeter of the trunk floor (matching the spare-wheel area specifically, since that's where the floor gives way) and lay it in as a reinforcement layer over the factory floor.23 This is a simple, commonly-done modification among X80 owners that prevents floor deformation under cargo weight.23

Counter-report — plywood also cracked: another owner's original trunk floor panel over the spare-wheel well cracked in two places; he replaced it with plywood, and the plywood cracked too. The video shows the trunk with the spare-wheel well (red plastic cover), tools and a tyre 456. A single sheet over the well may therefore not be enough on its own; consider a thicker or supported panel.
