Brake fluid type and flush
Tags: #brake-fluid · #abs
Recommended brake fluid: Rosdot DOT 4 Class 6. A full system flush (changing the fluid at all four corners) takes approximately 910 ml.12
One owner who flushed to this fluid while also replacing the front caliper dust boots reported a ~90% improvement in braking feel versus the factory-fill fluid, tested specifically on mountain-pass driving (Caucasus serpentine roads) with frequent, sustained braking — a scenario that stresses fluid quality (heat, moisture absorption) more than flat city driving.2
Bleeding sequence — diagonal Z-pattern (ABS)
Because the X80 has a Bosch-type ABS module, the brake bleeding order follows a diagonal ("Z") pattern, not a simple front-to-back or side-to-side sequence: start with the wheel furthest from the master cylinder and work diagonally — right rear → left rear → right front → left front. Nut/bleeder-screw tightening during the job follows the same diagonal logic throughout. The same diagonal principle is also how the ABS system itself is wired/functions, which is why the bleed order matters more on this car than on a simpler non-diagonal system.34567
