LED brake-light transmission fault

Prices and suppliers on this page are Russian-market (RUB, at the dates shown). Verify locally before relying on them in Syria.

Installing an LED bulb in the rear brake-light position (replacing the stock incandescent bulb) can confuse the transmission control unit: the ECU reads the LED's electrical signature differently from an incandescent bulb and can interpret it as the brake being continuously engaged. This causes the automatic transmission (AKPP) to behave erratically and overheat.

This has reportedly led to real financial harm: some services have misdiagnosed the resulting symptoms as transmission failure and charged around 50,000 RUB (RU market, Sept 2025) for an unnecessary overhaul — when the actual fix would have been reverting the bulb. The community speculates some shops may not even genuinely perform the overhaul, quietly swapping back to a normal bulb or a properly-resistored LED instead and still billing for the repair.

Prevention: use original incandescent bulbs in the brake-light position, or if using LEDs, ensure the LED solution includes proper load resistors so its electrical signature matches an incandescent bulb. Not a common failure, but the financial risk if it happens is real and significant.1

Confirmed-fit replacement bulb: Blitz BRO173

One owner reports the Blitz BRO173 bulb fits and installs successfully in the X80 brake-light position (personally installed and confirmed).2 This is a specific brand/part option for owners looking for a known-fit replacement bulb — verify it matches the incandescent electrical signature described above before using it as a drop-in replacement.
