Cold-start AKPP behavior at -10°C
Tags: #automatic-transmission · #cold-start · #winter
Some advice here concerns sub-zero winters and is less relevant in a hot climate.
At -10°C ambient temperature, reverse gear engagement is slow/sluggish on the first shift after a cold start, even after roughly one minute of idling; D gear is also slow to engage before the transmission warms up. This is considered normal behavior due to cold AKPP fluid viscosity 1234. To check the fluid level properly on this transmission: open the drain plug and verify that a thin, steady stream flows out — if no flow appears, the level is too low; refill incrementally in 200ml steps, checking after each addition until a proper stream is achieved 5.
