Fuel octane compatibility — 92 vs 95

Tags: #fuel · #octane

The X80 owner's manual specifies a minimum of 92-octane fuel, and owners confirm 92 is the design-intended grade ¹². Switching to 95-octane fuel yields no appreciable improvement in power or throttle response on stock engines, increases fuel consumption, and can trigger light detonation (pinging) on some units ³⁴. Community recommendation: use 92-octane for standard operation — it is both correct for the engine and more cost-effective ⁵⁶⁷.

Fuel quality and the K5 label: One member argued that since autumn 2025 (with an extension to 1 July 2027) some Russian refineries have been allowed, under decree No. 819, to sell Euro-3-spec fuel (sulfur up to 150 mg/kg instead of 10 mg/kg) that is still marked K5, so a K5 label would no longer guarantee Euro-5 fuel ⁸. This is a claim made in the chat and was not checked against the decree. Two other members countered that their fuel near Moscow was good, with no problems, including from a Tatneft station ⁹¹⁰.
