Radiator mounting vibration and leaks

Prices and suppliers on this page are Russian-market (RUB, at the dates shown). Verify locally before relying on them in Syria.

Mounting vibration/rattle. A rattle or vibration felt when the engine is running is often caused by worn rubber mounting pads at the top of the radiator. Fix: install rubber shim washers (DU15, roughly one per mounting point) under the existing mounting hardware to take up the wear and restore a firm mount.1

General radiator leak diagnosis. If coolant leaks from the radiator core: for a small pinhole, cold epoxy or metal brazing can be tried as a temporary or sometimes permanent seal — if that doesn't hold, drain, dry, and reseal with epoxy putty as a next step; if the leak is from a seal failure rather than the core itself, replace the radiator. Key diagnostic question: does the leak occur only under pressure, or is it constant? The radiator cap is a commonly overlooked root cause — a cap that no longer holds correct pressure causes excess system pressure, which itself produces pinhole leaks; verify a new cap actually seals properly before concluding the radiator itself is at fault, especially if a recent radiator replacement shows the same symptom. After any repair, bleed the cooling system for air pockets.2

Leak at the thermostat-housing/hose junction. If coolant seeps specifically from the junction between the upper radiator hose tee (or heat-exchanger block) and the engine block, the gasket/seal at that local interface has failed — this does not necessarily mean the whole engine-block gasket is compromised. Diagnose by removing the top hose and examining the socket/seal; before assuming a major job, confirm the upper hose is hot (thermostat functioning) and the coolant level is stable over time (ruling out a larger internal leak). Disassembly typically reveals a worn gasket at that joint specifically.3

Leak near the coolant temperature sensor — seam vs. crack. A leak from head-mounted components near the coolant temperature sensor may originate either from a factory weld-seam tear or an actual material crack in the casting — visually telling these apart is difficult. A borescope/camera inspection is recommended before committing to a repair, since cost varies widely depending on root cause: simple gasket replacement is cheap, a weld-seam repair is moderate, and a cracked casting may mean replacing the part entirely.4

Radiator air-pocket (overflow) valve price — unverified, low confidence. One community mention: an air-pocket/overflow valve for the radiator is available for under 500 RUB (RU market, September 2025), cited as an affordable replacement part. Exact supplier not specified in the discussion — treat as a rough price data point rather than a confirmed sourcing option.5

Radiator cap brand and replacement interval. A MASUMA-brand radiator cap (orange box packaging, Japanese and Russian text on the label) is a confirmed OEM-fit option for the X80. The cap has an integral pressure-relief valve and should be inspected during coolant-system maintenance — directly relevant to the "verify a new cap actually seals" advice already on this card, since cap failure is a commonly overlooked root cause of both pinhole leaks and air-pocket complaints elsewhere on this wiki. The packaging references a one-year replacement interval recommendation for the cap.67

Correct radiator cap pressure rating — 1.3 bar. The X80 radiator cap should be rated 1.3 bar (1.3 kg/cm²); caps rated 0.9 bar or 1.1 bar are not the correct spec and should not be fitted. A MASUMA cap, model MOX-206, at the correct 1.3 bar rating has run reliably on one owner's car for 3+ years, confirming both the exact pressure spec and the MASUMA brand recommendation noted above.89101112131415
