Brake/turn-signal CAN error codes

Tags: #turn-signal · #can-bus · #connector · #corrosion

Two distinct scenarios trigger stop-signal/turn-signal fault codes on this car, both worth checking before assuming a bulb is simply bad.

Moisture-damaged front light connector (cabin flood related). A stop signal error and turn-signal malfunction code can result from a moisture-damaged front light connector, tied to the broader cabin-flooding issue documented elsewhere in this knowledge base 12. Diagnostic/repair steps: locate and replace the damaged connector with an OEM part, clean all contacts thoroughly, and verify the diode load on any installed LED bulbs — cheap non-OEM LED replacement bulbs without a proper load-matching adapter ("обманка"/decoder) trigger false error codes over the CAN bus because their electrical draw doesn't match what the body control module expects from a filament bulb; ensure diode resistance properly matches spec 34.

Error code appearing right after a routine bulb swap. A separate, much more common trigger: replacing brake-light bulbs and immediately getting an error code on the dash, even with correct OEM-spec replacement bulbs 56. First check: bulb-socket contact cleanliness — a spot of poor contact at the bulb base (цоколь) is enough to intermittently trip the error 7. If the code persists despite clean contacts and correctly seated bulbs, disconnect the negative battery terminal for about 10 minutes to force a reset of the error code and the ECU's fault memory — this resolves the false code for many unrelated glitches on this car, not just this one 8. If the code still returns, suspect a damaged bulb socket/housing rather than the bulb itself, and verify correct bulb seating.

Both rear brake stop lights out — a seized brake-pedal switch, not a bulb/fuse issue. If both rear brake stop lights fail together, while the third (spoiler-mounted) brake light still works and both bulbs and the 10A fuse test fine, the actual cause is a seized brake-pedal button switch under the pedal — the plunger inside sticks. Fix: remove the switch from under the brake pedal, smooth the plunger with fine sandpaper, apply light machine oil or penetrating lubricant, cycle the switch a few times to test, then reinstall. One owner fully resolved the issue this way, restoring "like new" operation 910 1112.
