Comfort/BSM-VSM block — electrical hub
The "comfort block" (also called the BSM/VSM block, GLONASS module, or comfort module) is located to the left of the driver's left foot, under the dashboard trim. It serves as the main electrical distribution hub for most of the vehicle's electronics — the instrument cluster/gauges, climate control, lighting, and radio/infotainment are all wired through it 12.
Because the X80 has a well-documented tendency for water to leak into the driver's and passenger's footwells (see the water-leak card for causes and fixes), water intrusion at this specific location is especially consequential: since nearly all vehicle electronics route through the comfort block, water damage here can cause cascading electrical failures across multiple, seemingly unrelated systems at once — for example gauge misbehavior alongside climate-control or lighting faults — rather than a single isolated problem. If the interior floor/carpet on the driver's side has been wet and several unrelated electrical systems start acting up together, checking this block's connectors for moisture/corrosion is a reasonable diagnostic starting point 34.
