Normal dashboard warning-indicator behavior

Two frequently-asked "is this normal?" dashboard behaviors, both answered from the same discussion thread.

Oil-pressure indicator light. Normal sequence: the oil-pressure light glows when the ignition is switched on (before the engine starts), then extinguishes once the engine actually starts and oil pressure builds — i.e. it should stay lit only during the pre-start ignition-on phase. One owner reported the light extinguishing even without the engine being started at all, which is abnormal and points to a sensor or bulb fault, not a light that's supposed to constantly glow. Separately: if the light comes on and stays on while driving, that indicates an actual engine oil-pressure loss and should be treated as urgent ^{12 34}.

Warning beeps — door-open and headlights-left-on. Two distinct, normal beep scenarios on recent X80s: (1) the car beeps when the ignition is on and a door is opened — a standard safety reminder, though not present on every trim/variant; (2) the car beeps as a reminder when the engine is off but the headlights were left on. Both are expected factory behavior. Note: some vehicles with an aftermarket alarm installed may add extra beep signals on top of these, which can make it harder to tell factory beeps from alarm-added ones ^{5678 9101112131415}.

Immobilizer (security) indicator light blinking with no key inserted. A third normal-behavior case: the red immobilizer/security indicator blinking continuously while no key is inserted is expected, factory behavior — it indicates the anti-theft system is armed. It turns off once a key is inserted and the engine starts, and resumes blinking again after the engine is turned off and the key removed. This is NOT an error on any modern X80 model. The one abnormal pattern to watch for: the light being solid red (not blinking) while the car is stationary — that would indicate an actual fault, unlike the normal blinking-with-no-key state ^{1617181920212223 2425262728293031 32}. A later report matches this: an owner saw a dashboard indicator blinking after the ignition was switched off, even with the alarm armed; a member confirmed that a flashing security indicator is normal for the factory alarm, another suggested a service check just to be sure ³³³⁴.

Hidden "Test" mode on the instrument cluster (pre-facelift). Pre-facelift FAW Besturn X80 models reportedly have a hidden "Test" mode on the instrument cluster, accessed via cluster diagnostics. A Yandex Zen article was mentioned as documenting the activation and usage. Not confirmed present (or possibly different) on post-facelift restyle models. Low confidence — single-source report, not independently verified ³⁵.
