Rear wiper motor bearing corrosion

Tags: #corrosion · #bushing

Some advice here concerns sub-zero winters and is less relevant in a hot climate.

Symptom: the rear wiper initially slows to a crawl, then stops completely — often mid-stroke rather than parking cleanly. Root cause: corrosion/oxidation of the pivot axes inside the wiper motor's bushings 12. Fixes reported: disassemble the motor, lubricate the axes and check the electrical contacts, or replace the corroded bushings outright 345. Preventive maintenance after winter (when road salt/moisture exposure is highest) is recommended to catch this before it progresses to a full stop.

Rear wiper circuit is routed through the trunk-lock switch. A wiring-architecture note separate from the bushing-corrosion failure mode above: the rear wiper motor's circuit is routed through the trunk (boot) lock switch. Practical consequence for diagnosis: if the rear wiper isn't working at all, first verify the trunk lock itself is functioning correctly before assuming a wiper-motor fault — a faulty trunk lock switch can present as a dead rear wiper 678.
