Starline alarm — installation and "free hands" feature

Tags: #alarm · #installation

Starline A93 installation: placement varies by installer (near the lock area or behind the dashboard). Some installations had issues with auto-start not working reliably in cold weather, traced to a poor battery/ power implementation — a 3.3V battery inside the relay box feeds the key fob, and it's prone to drain. Auto-start reliability appears temperature-dependent and may require troubleshooting on a case-by-case basis ¹²³⁴.

"Free hands" mode (2018 model): settings include an aggressive auto-lock when the Bluetooth key goes out of range (5 m), and an optional auto-fold mirrors feature. On the 2018 software version, mirror folding cannot be disabled in settings. Window auto-close is available via a long press of the close button, if the windows have been "trained" for auto mode. Manually blocking the Bluetooth free-hands function requires cutting the trigger wire and routing it to a physical button — this is a non-stock modification ^567891011.

Remote engine start via key fob (factory feature, top trims only): remote engine start is available on some FAW X80 models — the maximum/full-equipment trim, primarily automatic-transmission-equipped versions. Activation: press the door-lock (close) button 5 times in short, rapid pulses. ⚠️ Conflict/note: feature availability varies by model year and trim level; some manual-transmission models do not have this function ^{12131415161718}.

Manual key won't turn in door lock when battery is dead — StarLine solenoid block: when the car battery is dead or weak, the manual key inserted in the door lock cannot turn if the StarLine alarm is armed — the alarm's electronic lock solenoid physically blocks the mechanism. Solutions: (1) use the alarm's signal/remote button to disarm it first, if it still has enough power to respond; (2) spray WD-40 into the lock and gradually work the key if it's frozen; (3) wait for the battery to recover some charge. Manual key rotation direction: left = lock, right = unlock ^{1920212223242526272829303132}.
