TPMS tire pressure sensors

How the system works

Each wheel carries its own TPMS sensor with a sealed, non-replaceable battery and a unique ID that must be programmed into the vehicle computer; sensors cannot be paired as a group, each is registered individually ¹²³⁴. Owners describe the X80 system as a Japanese-origin design: unlike Hyundai or Geely models, which reportedly auto-detect new sensors, the FAW system needs a diagnostic tool for every new or replacement sensor, and a professional Autel programmer can handle several sensors in one session ⁵⁶⁷. Later part-number reports, programming pitfalls and ID-reading limits are in TPMS sensors — 5GA/5BA reports, programming, IDs.

• Wheel-position binding. Sensors are bound to a wheel position and cannot be freely moved on rotation; rebinding is required whenever they are rotated ⁸⁹. The car keeps reporting a moved sensor's data under its original position until re-paired, and after rotation readings may show on the wrong position until the computer updates; the receiver can pick a sensor up from about 10 m away ¹⁰.
• Frequency. The system runs at 434 MHz or 433 MHz depending on vehicle/market and the frequencies cannot be mixed ¹¹¹²; X80 sensors are described as 433 MHz (the Europe standard; US is 315 MHz, Japan 434 MHz) ^{1314151617181920}. The parts catalog and owner's manual, however, point to 315 MHz for the OEM sensor ²¹²²²³, yet several owners measured or ordered "433 MHz" sensors that worked when matched to the correct part number, so treat the part number as authoritative over the marketed frequency and check both ^24252627. Sensors made before about 2016 are reported at 315, 433 or 434 MHz depending on the manufacturing batch ^282930313233. Universal sensors for Asian/Korean vehicles exist in the correct FAW frequency ³⁴³⁵³⁶. The FAW carrier frequency encoding is reportedly several MHz off generic aftermarket sensors, apparently by design to push owners to dealer programming ³⁷³⁸.
• Reading the sensor ID. The ID is printed on the sensor body (the last 8 digits of the identification number, near the torque/thread area) ³⁹⁴⁰; it can be read by eye once the tire is dismounted, or through a compatible scanner/OBD-II interface ^{1314151617181920}. It is how you match a physical sensor to its registered ID when troubleshooting or ordering a replacement ³⁹⁴⁰.
• Checking sensor function on the dashboard. Turn the key to ON, wait 2 minutes, then open the reading with the steering-wheel info button: down, OK, OK ⁴¹⁴². Signal registration can take 2-3 minutes after startup ⁴³⁴⁴⁴⁵.
