Trunk power outlet availability

Tags: #trunk · #fuse

Availability by model year/generation: on the pre-facelift X80 (2015–2018), a trunk power outlet is factory-installed on some trims, protected by a dedicated 15A fuse in the cabin/dash fuse panel. On the facelift (2018+), there is no factory trunk outlet, but a placeholder hole exists for DIY installation. Power for this outlet comes from the interior (cabin) wiring — it is not separately fused from the trunk area ^{123456789101112131415}. ⚠️ Conflict: some facelift owners report a factory outlet is present; it's unclear whether this is present on all trims or only higher-spec models. Pre-facelift models definitively have it.

Fuse rating and location: the trunk/cargo power outlet is protected by a dedicated 15A fuse, located in the salon/cabin fuse panel, separate from the salon power-outlet fuses. It is rated for 15A continuous — suitable for small chargers, small air compressors (~3W rated), and tools under 100W. Higher-power devices will blow the 15A fuse ^{101116171819202122}.

Wiring troubleshooting: if the trunk power outlet has no power: (1) check the 15A fuse in the cabin panel (top/middle area of the dash); (2) if the fuse is blown, replace it with a 15A fuse and retest; (3) if there is still no power after fuse replacement, check for loose connectors in the wiring harness running to the outlet; (4) verify the outlet itself is not disconnected. A high-power surge (e.g. a short in a trailer plug) is the most common cause of fuse failure ^{23242526271728292030}.
