This card collects several different, sometimes conflicting claims about the correct ATF spec for the X80's automatic transmission, reported by different owners at different times. Treat this as raw community data rather than a single confirmed answer — cross-check against the manual/dealer before committing to a fluid.
"ATF 3309/DAM 3309" claim. One owner reports having changed the AT fluid and used Reinwell ATF 3309/LT, having been advised against Mobil-branded ATF because its price doesn't justify the amount of counterfeiting in that segment; filled to about 8L total including the auxiliary cooler circuit1. This exchange included photo evidence of the Reinwell bottle/packaging, with other members asking "where exactly [does it go]?" and "like this?" while sharing photos back and forth confirming the product23456789. An unrelated side-question in the same thread — about sourcing a rear wheel-bearing part — was answered with part number FC012615X, available from WB, Avito, Ozon and similar marketplaces, noted as mostly no-name equivalents of similar quality regardless of listed price101112. When directly asked "what oil and how many liters," another owner in the same thread answered "ATF 3309 [sic — written "3308" in the reply text], 8L for a full change, ~4L for a partial change"1314.
"JWS, approval/допуск 3309" claim (Aisin G09). A separate owner states the transmission (Aisin G09) spec is: type JWS (synthetic), with approval/допуск 3309 — meaning any synthetic ATF fluid carrying the 3309 approval code should qualify, not a specific brand1516.
"JWS-3309, Aisin 09G/09K/09M" claim with capacity figures. Elsewhere in the group, the automatic transmission (Aisin 09G) is described as requiring ATF meeting the JWS-3309 specification, with capacity 6.4L for a complete fill, approximately 8L for a full replacement, and 4L for a partial replacement — sourced from a manual excerpt/photo17. A separate reply agrees "if it's the AT, yes, with допуск 3309" and adds that Idemitsu is fine for both the AT and the engine1819.
"TF60/61SN, lifetime fluid per manual — but owners dispute this" claim. Another thread identifies the transmission model as 09G/09K/09M, spec TF60/61SN, and notes the official FAW manual states the fluid is filled for the vehicle's service life and only the level should be checked — but the owner community instead cites Volkswagen-group service documentation recommending periodic changes around 60,000-80,000 km, with kakoemaslo.ru cited as a reference for looking up the ATF spec2021. This claim was directly disputed by another long-time member, who argues such third-party "regulations" articles are unsubstantiated ("I could write dozens of these myself"), that official dealers under warranty follow only the manufacturer's stated schedule, and that trusting random published schedules over the manual is not something they're willing to do22. The original poster maintains their position is based on personal experience plus specialist advice they trust specifically for Aisin transmissions, and points back to VAG-manual screenshots with change-interval tables2324.
"75/90, допуск GL5" claim (context: differential/axle use, labeled by the source as AKPP-related). One thread states "75/90 допуск GL5. Допускается работа в мостах" — i.e. a 75W-90 gear oil meeting GL5 is acceptable, explicitly noting it's also approved for use in the axles/differentials, which suggests this reply may be answering a differential-oil question rather than (or in addition to) the torque-converter ATF question; the same owner filled this oil about 8,000 km prior with no issues, noting GL5 has higher requirements than GL4, suited to hypoid gears2526. This claim should not be read as contradicting the ATF specs above without more context — it may describe a different fluid circuit (differential/axle) rather than the torque-converter fluid. Separately, the AT pan gasket part number is 35168-TFA050, around 6,066 RUB (RU market, Oct 2024) from a supplier called Kitparts27.
"3309 or Toyota Type IV" claim. A separate, later report simplifies the requirement to: the AKPP requires either 3309 or Toyota Type IV transmission fluid28.
Official approvals document — full cross-brand list. A photographed official specifications page states the transmission is a 4-speed automatic with JWS 3309/3314 approval per official spec, and lists a broad set of cross-manufacturer equivalences shown on the same page: MAN 339 Type V1/Z11/Z2, MB-Freigabe 236.9, Voith 55.6335, ZF TE-ML 04D/14B/20B/25B, plus recommended-equivalent approvals including Aisin Warner JWS 3309/3314, Allison TES 295/389, BMW LA-2634, Chrysler ATF+3/+4, Ford M2C195-A/922-A1, GM 9986195, Honda Z1, Hyundai/Kia/Mitsubishi SP-II/III, MB 235.71/236.8/236.10/236.11/236.91, Nissan Matic-D/J/K, Toyota T-IV/JWS 3309, Voith H55.6336, Volvo 97341/5-Speed, VW 50 160/TL 52 162/G 052 990/G 055 025, and ZF TE-ML 02F/11B/14C. Note this document describes the fluid as a 4-speed-class approval, which sits alongside the "6-speed" transmission descriptions used elsewhere for the X80 — treat the transmission speed-count as unresolved across this card and the transmission-identity notes in the engine-identity card29.
Universal vs. mono-spec ATF — a conflict, and a fix for post-change problems. When transmission issues appeared immediately after a fluid change, one specialist's advice was to move away from universal (multi-spec) ATF and toward a single-type ("mono") fluid, spec 4 or 3309, then perform two fluid changes about 1,000 km apart to fully purge the old fluid and confirm compatibility. The reasoning given: universal oils satisfy multiple approval labels at once but may not be genuinely ideal for any one of them, unlike a dedicated single-spec fluid30313233. Conflict: this directly disagrees with the "universal fluid is fine, any 3309-approved ATF qualifies" framing used elsewhere in this card — presented here as a distinct, dissenting recommendation, not a resolved consensus.
Dextron III — accepted per factory spec, with caveats. In a separate power-steering-fluid discussion, one owner explicitly chose the safer, familiar Dextron III over an unfamiliar alternative for their power-steering system. For the transmission itself, Dextron III is described as acceptable per factory spec, though a specialist recommended instead ordering fluid meeting spec 3309 specifically. The owner went ahead and performed a full transmission fluid replacement using Dextron III. Toyota Type IV was mentioned as another possible alternative but was not recommended without further confirmation34353637.
Manual's fluid-change interval claim disputed. One owner posted that a diagnostic error appeared for the transmission (alongside ESP/ABS errors) and asserted the AT fluid should be changed every 60,000-70,000 km. Another member immediately challenged this, asking directly where that figure is documented; the original poster admitted they thought they'd read it in the manual, but the challenger states flatly that no such 60-70K interval appears in the manual — the only related text is that the fluid level should be checked every 30,000 km, with no separate change interval specified at all38394041. This is a distinct, procedural claim from the fluid-type conflicts collected above, but touches the same "what does the manual actually say about maintaining this fluid" question.
Partial-drain service practice — real-world interval and fluid used. One owner shares a practical maintenance pattern: the AT can be serviced in stages via partial drains (no pan removal), each draining roughly 2.1-2.2 liters. In this owner's own practice, partial drains were done at 80,000 km and 110,000 km on the odometer — i.e. about 30,000 km apart — with a full pan-removal/filter-clean service planned for the 3rd service interval. The fluid used was Totachi ATF (Multi-Vehicle, fully synthetic), added via syringe through the fill access point (photographed). A noticeable improvement in transmission responsiveness was reported after the partial change — a second owner in the same thread reports the same subjective effect ("felt the car got peppier") after their own partial drain4243444546.
Level-check procedure — no dipstick on the X80F. The Besturn X80F automatic-transmission variant has no transmission fluid dipstick. To check the level: open the drain plug/bolt at the bottom of the transmission pan. If fluid trickles out, the level is correct. If nothing comes out, add fluid via syringe until it just starts to seep from the opening — the transmission pan should be kept full to that point4748.
Power loss reported after a partial fluid/filter change. One owner performed a partial AT fluid-and-filter change and afterward experienced loss of power and sluggish acceleration. The fluid used was Rowe 9000 multi-spec ATF, which may not meet all of the FAW AKPP's requirements — consistent with the universal-vs-mono-spec concern raised above. Suggested troubleshooting: verify fluid level, check the fuel-system filter for blockages, and reconsider fluid-type compatibility with the transmission (identified elsewhere in this KB as TF-70SC)49505152535455565758.
AKPP oil change with Mannol (early report, low detail). One owner performed an AKPP transmission fluid change using Mannol-brand ATF; a change interval was recommended by the owner despite the factory manual omitting a fixed schedule — no specific frequency was settled on in this exchange5960.
ATF 3309 restated as non-negotiable — universal ATF explicitly rejected. A separate, later exchange restates the requirement in the strongest terms yet: the AKPP requires ATF 3309 specifically; so-called "universal" ATF oils that claim broad compatibility are not suitable for this gearbox due to differing viscosity profiles. The fluid is described as mineral-based with synthetic additives, not fully synthetic61626364656667. Conflict: some owners in this same exchange experimented with other fluids (Titan 4400, ZIC, Dextron) with mixed results; the community consensus nonetheless leans toward strict adherence to 3309.
Jerky/harsh shifts after a partial fluid exchange — traced to wrong spec or adaptation lag. After a partial AT fluid exchange, some owners reported jerky/harsh shifts and reduced acceleration. Root cause identified in this thread: using a universal ATF instead of the exact ATF 3309 spec, or simply an insufficient adaptation period after the fluid swap. Fix: switch to the exact ATF 3309 spec and allow the transmission to relearn its shift patterns through normal driving — different fluid viscosity is said to disrupt the calibrated shift timing686963707172. Conflict: one owner resolved the issue by switching to ATF 3309, while another noted the restyled (2019+) gearbox differs internally from the older version, which may affect how it responds to fluid changes.
AKPP fill capacity and methods — restated with method-specific figures. Factory-stated capacity is 6 liters. In practice the figure depends on method: a partial drain without pan removal removes/replaces roughly 3 liters out, 3 liters in; a full drain and refill takes 8-12 liters total; after any fill, expect roughly 1 liter to subsequently drain out of the lines during operation. Verify the final level with the dipstick after driving73747576.
AT filter part number (2017 model) and simplified fluid spec. For the 2017-model automatic transmission, the filter part number is 35330-TFA060. Recommended fluid: JWS 3309 or Toyota Type IV — consistent with the "3309 or Toyota Type IV" claim already on this card7778798081.
Fluid change volume — 6L over 2 cycles, restated. A separate report states the standard AT fluid change is 6 liters total across 2 cycles. Without pan removal, a partial drain yields 2.5-3 L; with pan and filter removal, 3-3.5 L. Practical consensus in this exchange: 4 liters is a safe working amount, with more cycles possible if desired — broadly consistent with the partial/full-drain figures already on this card828384.
Manual "lifetime fluid" claim vs. preventive-maintenance camp — restated with concrete intervals. Factory documentation again states the fluid is rated for the vehicle's full service life, and official dealers typically skip an AT fluid change during standard maintenance. Practical owner experience clusters into two camps: (1) change at 40,000-60,000 km first, then every 60,000-70,000 km as preventive maintenance; (2) one owner with 220,000 km has never changed the fluid, with no issues reported. Some owners use a "recycled oil" method — siphoning old fluid through a filter and returning it — to cut cost while still refreshing the fluid periodically85868788899091929394959697. Conflict: this restates and reinforces the existing lifetime-vs-periodic disagreement already documented on this card (, ).
Polymerium ATF — retracted after poor oil-analysis results. Polymerium transmission oil, previously recommended elsewhere in the community, is now flagged as a fluid to avoid: independent used-oil analysis on the Oilclub forum found elevated wear metals and a short effective service life. Recommended alternatives with better track records: BARDAHL (verified by owner experience) and NGN. General guidance: prioritize verified oil-analysis results over brand reputation or price. TOTACHI ATF Multi-Vehicle (synthetic) and TOTACHI ATF Type T-IV are cited as acceptable, reasonably priced alternatives9899100101102103104.
TOTACHI ATF — restated with packaging detail. Both TOTACHI ATF Multi-Vehicle (synthetic) and TOTACHI ATF Type T-IV are again confirmed as suitable, sold in 4 L containers; multiple owners recommend buying via Wildberries105106107.
AT filter kit and gasket-quality note (MAHLE HX169KIT). The automatic transmission uses the MAHLE HX169KIT filter kit, which includes the pan gasket. Some owners report needing a custom/aftermarket gasket because OEM gasket quality has reportedly declined in recent production years. Separately, the manual transmission has no breather (сапун) in the factory design108109110111.
Partial vs. full-change volume — restated, with a disputed 8L outlier. Total AT capacity is again cited as approximately 6 liters. Partial change without pan drop: 2.2-2.5 L. Full change with pan drop and filter change: typically 3-3.5 L, though one owner reported 8 L going in after a pan drop — treated as an outlier/disputed figure rather than representative. Most owners favor 3-4 L for a proper partial change with pan removal, or 2-2.5 L without. As of October 2025 (RU market), one owner paid 1,800 RUB per 4 L of ATF112113114115116117118119120121122.
Pan filter with gasket — MAHLE HX169KIT. Automatic-transmission pan filter with gasket: MAHLE/KNECHT HX169KIT, which also fits as a MINI Cooper equivalent. Available on autorus.ru and Wildberries. Reported price ~2,000+ RUB (RU market, Oct 2025), with a note that the same part was purchased a month earlier for 2,500 RUB — treat pricing as volatile123124125126127128.
Pan gasket installation without sealant, on repeat services. For AKPP pan gasket replacement, sealant is not required on the second and subsequent times the pan is serviced — reuse the original metal spacer bushings from the previous gasket, or transfer new 0.2mm spacers from the old gasket to the new one. This method prevents leaks without additional sealant129.
AT fluid type and change interval — restated. Automatic transmission fluid type 3309 is used in the FAW X80. At 93,000 km on a 2020 model, a partial drain plus filter cleaning was recommended; at 200,000 km, one owner performed a partial drain and cleaning without major issues. Original factory fluid can last through high mileage if the transmission is otherwise performing well; check manufacturer specs for full change-interval details130131132133134135.
Specific retail product — CHEMPIOIL Multi ATF JWS 3309. A specific branded product matching the JWS 3309 spec: CHEMPIOIL Multi ATF JWS 3309, sourced from Wildberries and other retailers. For checking fluid color/condition when cap access is limited, a 5 ml medical syringe works to draw a small sample136137138139140.
"KIXX DXIII carries our JWS-3309 approval" — restated, with a "Multi ≠ universal" caution. An owner confirms KIXX DXIII shows the JWS-3309 approval on the bottle and was told by a shop this fits the 4-speed AT. Community reply: nominally, any fluid showing the JWS 3309 approval is suitable — multiple shops and the manual itself reportedly cite only "3309" with no brand restriction, and Mannol Multi ATF is the most commonly-used fluid among owners in this group. A caution is raised, though: "Multi" fluids are sometimes described online as intended for 6-8 speed gearboxes rather than being universal, and it isn't clear whether "Multi" labeling is itself sufficient proof of 3309 suitability, prompting one owner's cynical "paper accepts anything" remark. One long-time contributor's personal view: he only trusts Mobil for a strict 3309 match (an older-generation approval; the newer standard being Type IV), comparing "universal Multi ATF" fluids to all-season tires or a do-it-all kitchen appliance — i.e. broadly capable but not necessarily ideal141142143144145146147148149.
Mobil 3309 pricing and counterfeit risk — restated with an early, lower price point. Mobil 3309 (1L) listed on Ozon at around 1,000+ RUB, described by one owner as "a lottery" given inconsistent seller quality. Pushback from another member: Mobil has the highest counterfeit rate of any 3309-approved brand on the market, so there is little reason to insist on it specifically — many other oils carry the same 3309 approval, and more frequent changes matter more than brand loyalty150151.
Transmission filter cross-fit — Mini Cooper part, Sumomoto vs. Zekkert. The AKPP filter cross-fits with a Mini Cooper transmission filter, listed as Sumomoto SM-24347566358 (OEM equivalent 24347566358), sold on Ozon and confirmed compatible with the X80/X80F. Reported prices (RU market, Apr 2026) ranged from ~900 RUB (Sumomoto, single) up to 2,400-2,500 RUB for other listings, with one owner having paid as much as 3,500 RUB when the exchange rate was less favorable; a 4-piece kit was quoted at 2,500 RUB. Zekkert-brand filters were explicitly rejected by one buyer as poor quality; Sumomoto was the preferred brand in this exchange. The filter is also available via AliExpress152153154155156157158159160161162163164.
"Mobil ATF 3309, no dipstick, partial drain at 60,000 km" — from the second Telegram group. A separate community (FAW BESTURN X80 group) gives another data point consistent with several claims already on this card: the AKPP has no dipstick for checking fluid level (an electronic level-sensing system instead — consistent with the "no dipstick on the X80F" claim already documented above), the fluid used is Mobil ATF 3309 synthetic per the vehicle's paperwork ("по паспорту"), and a partial drain ("полупролив") is performed at 60,000 km165.
AKPP capacity — 8 liters, Mobil 3309 synthetic, 60,000 km change interval — from the second Telegram group. A separate, related report from the same second group states the AKPP holds 8 liters total, using Mobil 3309 synthetic fluid, with a full-change interval of 60,000 km — broadly consistent with the "8-12 liters total for a full drain/refill" and "3309" claims already documented on this card, though this report frames 8L as the total capacity rather than a full-change volume specifically166.
Where the community disagrees
- The claim that AT fluid should be changed every 60,000-70,000 km per the manual was directly disputed by another member, who states the manual only specifies a 30,000 km level-check interval with no separate change interval given. Not resolved — the original poster did not produce a manual citation to support the 60-70K figure.
- This recommendation (switch from universal/multi-spec ATF to a dedicated mono-spec fluid such as 3309, with a double change to purge old fluid) directly conflicts with the "any 3309-approved universal ATF should qualify" framing used elsewhere in this card. Not resolved within this data batch — may depend on specific transmission wear state or specialist preference.
- This batch of Telegram messages contains at least four distinct spec labels for the same X80 automatic transmission across different points in time: "ATF 3309/3308", "JWS допуск 3309", "JWS-3309" (with Aisin 09G/09K/09M), and "TF60/61SN". These may partly be different ways of naming the same underlying Aisin approval, or may reflect genuine confusion/drift in the community — not resolved within this data batch. Cross-check against an authoritative Aisin/FAW parts catalog before purchasing fluid.
- Direct community disagreement: one side argues (citing VAG/Volkswagen-group documentation) that the "lifetime fluid, check level only" claim in the FAW manual is wrong and periodic ATF changes (~60,000-80,000 km) are warranted; the other side argues third-party "regulation" articles are unsubstantiated and the manufacturer's own manual/warranty schedule should be trusted instead. Not resolved within this data batch.
- The "75/90, допуск GL5" reply explicitly mentions axle/differential use, which may mean it answers a different (differential) fluid question rather than describing the torque-converter ATF — flagged here rather than merged as a contradiction.
- Despite a strong restatement that ATF 3309 is required and "universal" ATF is unsuitable, some owners in the same exchange report experimenting with other fluids (Titan 4400, ZIC, Dextron) with mixed results — not fully resolved within this data batch.
- One owner resolved post-partial-change jerky shifting by switching to ATF 3309; another separately noted the restyled (2019+) gearbox differs internally from the older version, which may affect its sensitivity to fluid type/change method — whether this fully explains the jerky-shift cases is unresolved.
