Crankshaft seal oil leak near engine mount

Tags: #oil-leak · #diagnostics

Symptom and likely source. An oil stain observed in the engine compartment near the engine-mounting area is most likely sourced from the crankshaft seal (сальник коленвала), not the oil pump or camshaft seal. The crankshaft seal is located at the bottom/rear of the engine, near the flywheel¹²³⁴⁵.

When to worry. Small oil traces alone do not indicate imminent failure — monitor for progression rather than acting immediately. Wet spots on components without any puddling underneath the car are considered acceptable to watch; actual dripping (puddling) is what warrants seal replacement¹²³⁴⁵.

Front crankshaft seal — part number. Front crankshaft seal (передний сальник коленвала) part number for the FAW Besturn X80: 1005090-37K. Available from multiple Russian suppliers including KitZapchasti⁶⁷.

Crankshaft seal — Victor Reinz alternative for restyled (2019+) models. A cross-brand alternative crankshaft seal, Victor Reinz 81-53254-00, fits the restyled (2019+) X80. Reported labor cost for the seal replacement: approximately 500 RUB (RU market, Jan 2026), when performed alongside other work on the vehicle at the same time (i.e. incremental labor, not a standalone job price)⁸⁹.
