Possible related symptom — low-mileage knocking/vibration below 2500 rpm. A new owner (47,000 km, 20 days of ownership) reported engine noise/knocking up to 2500 rpm with accompanying vibration; possible causes discussed include worn engine mounts or an exhaust seal-ring failure. Flagged as worth investigating but not immediately critical on a low-mileage car; not confirmed which cause applied1.
Hydro-mount failure — idle/AC vibration and ~1.5cm engine misalignment. Failed hydro engine mounts allow excessive engine movement, most noticeable as vibration at idle and when the A/C compressor engages. In one case a failed mount produced roughly 1.5cm of engine misalignment; replacing the failed hydro mount resolved the vibration and reduced engine movement. Photos in this report show a Patron PSE3325 rubber damper compared against an OEM mount for reference23.
Roaring/turbine-like noise traced to a sagging right hydro mount. The right (hydraulic) engine mount can sag with age (roughly 1.5 cm of drop observed in one case), losing its damping ability; the engine then rocks backward under throttle and transfers vibration to the body through the left mount, producing a sound described as an engine roar or turbine whistle under acceleration. Replacing the right hydro mount eliminated the noise. Diagnostic tip: listen under hard acceleration — a muffled, vibration-like sound points to a mount problem45.
Bucking/jolting between 1st and 2nd gear — engine mounts as a suspected cause. Symptom: when releasing the clutch between 1st and 2nd gear, the engine abruptly shifts sideways with a mechanical bucking sensation and brief vibration, occurring only on this one shift. Likely causes: (1) worn engine mounts allowing excessive engine sway when load transfers; (2) brakes partially engaged (residual pressure) causing drivetrain bind. Diagnosis: check brake-system pressure hold and inspect the engine-mount rubber for cracks or slop6789.
Mount wear effect on shifts and vibration, with a mileage baseline. At 55,000 km, mounts may show no wear at all — this is a useful low-mileage baseline against the higher-mileage failure figures on the overview card. Once worn, symptoms are: jerking during the 1st-to-2nd gear shift transition, and vibration through the body/cabin/exhaust system, especially noticeable during cold startup/warm-up. Replacing only the right mount reduces the jerking by roughly 80% but does not resolve the vibration; replacing all three mounts resolves both symptoms101112131415.
How to check engine mounts for wear — a practical inspection guide. Right mount: visually inspect the gap between the mounting bracket and the rubber body — when worn, the gap shrinks to a minimum and the rubber visibly bulges from the bottom. Left mount: harder to access; test by pushing/shaking from the gearbox side and feeling for excessive movement. If there's no vibration felt in the cabin at idle, there's no urgent need to replace mounts. Temperature-dependent behavior: vibration is worse on a cold start (below ~70°C) and reduces as RPM/temperature rises1617181920212223.
Clicking on launch with wheels turned — fixed by replacing the right motor mount. A clicking sound occurring specifically during launch/start-off with the steering wheels turned was resolved by replacing the right motor mount (engine cushion/подушка двигателя). The likely mechanism: excessive engine movement under load creates momentary contact between components that only happens under the combined load of launch + turned wheels24.
Left mount degradation — distinctive metal-on-metal rattling under acceleration. The left engine mount's rubber degrades over time, causing vibration and a metallic rattling ("как будто метал об метал" — "like metal on metal") specifically during acceleration/engine load — with a key distinguishing symptom: no noise at idle. This is often combined with concurrent right-mount failure. Factory rubber mounts are prone to cracking and corrosion over time. When any single mount fails, replacing all three is recommended rather than just the failed one2526.
Vibration diagnosis — engine mounts are one of several possible causes, not an automatic conclusion. Strong vibration felt through the cabin and exhaust (with rattling license plates) can stem from worn engine mounts, especially the right mount support — but proper diagnosis requires also checking: spark plugs for cylinder misfire (especially cylinder #1), engine mount condition (press the rubber from below to check for deformation), and exhaust resonance or component-to-component contact. Vibration often occurs at specific RPM ranges under constant engine load rather than across the whole rev range. Conflict: one owner (Фаб) replaced the right mount but the vibration persisted, while Victor argues the community should check multiple potential causes rather than assuming the mount is always the single culprit — consistent with the multi-cause vibration diagnosis already implied elsewhere on this card272829303132.
Right engine mount failure flagged as a pre-purchase check item. A "dead"/worn right-side engine mount is listed by one owner among several items worth checking before buying a used X80, alongside water intrusion under the spare-wheel well and front floor mats, rust under the rear-door molding and driver-side sill trim, and front brake-disc wear33.
Checking the right mount by hand: gap to the bracket (Sep 2026). The right engine mount (опора / подушка двигателя) is checked by feel, and by measuring the gap between the engine bracket (кронштейн) and the top rubber of the mount: Victor 🇷🇺 says it must be at least 5 mm, and if the bracket can sit on the rubber the vibration becomes severe 3435. Arсhi 77 gives 5-7 mm as normal and suggests laying about three coins in the gap as a gauge; he posted a photo of a bracket resting directly on the rubber with no gap, which "should not be like that" 3637. Prosto Zuev measured roughly 5-6 mm on his car 38. Disagreement: Arсhi 77 says a rubber nub (сися) protruding underneath is not a failure sign by itself if the gap is normal and there is no vibration, citing hundreds of Mazda-owner comments on drive2 39; Victor 🇷🇺 considers a 4.5 mm gap (two 10-ruble coins) too small 40. Victor 🇷🇺 adds that vibration thresholds differ between cars, that the left mount need not be inspected before about 100,000 km because its rubber is standard, and warns to tighten the mount bolt carefully: he stripped the thread in the bracket where the bolt screws in, and a nut fixed it 4142. For removing and refitting the mount see the procedure card.
Checking a hydraulic mount (гидроопора) for oil. Press the mount from below: in an oil-filled mount, pressing one spot makes another spot bulge; a stiff mount is just a piece of rubber, and a mount that does not bulge at all has an empty cavity without oil 4344. Disagreement on gurgling: Rus.d1 hears something bubbling when the car shakes over bumps 45; Victor 🇷🇺 says a fully filled mount has no free space to gurgle 46; Prosto Zuev suggests it may still contain oil 47. The cause is not settled.
Where the community disagrees
- One owner (Фаб) replaced the right engine mount but vibration persisted; Victor argues vibration diagnosis should check multiple potential causes (spark plugs/misfire, mount condition, exhaust resonance) rather than assuming the mount is always the sole cause. Not resolved within this data batch.
