Engine mounts — wear detection and replacement

Tags: #engine-mount · #vibration

Some advice here concerns sub-zero winters and is less relevant in a hot climate.

Symptoms of worn engine mounts. Noticeable vibration throughout the vehicle, felt primarily on cold start and during idle. The right-side mount typically fails first. A service technician can diagnose by lifting the vehicle and checking mount movement by hand.1234

Complete vibration elimination requires all three mounts, not just one. One owner replaced the right and left engine mounts (the lower central mount was original at 160,000 km and already showed cracks) and saw vibration reduced by ~90% — not fully eliminated. For AKPP (automatic transmission) cars specifically, the transmission mount bushing ("бублик") also needs restoration/replacement to fully eliminate the vibration — a worn transmission mount bushing causes significant body buzz even after the engine mounts themselves have been serviced.56

Full mount replacement vs. bushing-only fix (2025-09 report). Left-side steering-wheel vibration under acceleration was traced to the right engine mount. The owner first tried replacing just the mount's rubber bushing/pad (suspension bush) — this had no effect. Only a full mount replacement, using a Mazda 6 Atenza mount (part number SAT ST-GJ6G-39-060E), completely eliminated the vibration. Photos document the before/after mount gap, changing from ~3 mm to ~0.8 cm. No special tools were required for the installation.7891011121314

Right mount: SAT and Tzer li options (October 2025). For the right-hand mount, the Mazda 6 number GJ6A39060 is cross-listed as SAT ST-GJ6G-39-060E and as Tzer li TZ-GJ6A-39-060, which is a hydraulic version1516. This overlaps with engine mounts — vibration and replacement, which already holds the SAT option and the fitment reports.
