Official spec (CA4GD1 gasoline engine). The manual specifies 5W-30 as the primary motor oil for the CA4GD1 engine, with 5W-20 and 5W-40 as acceptable alternatives depending on ambient temperature (chart range -15°C to +45°C)12. The manual warns against using higher-viscosity oil at low temperatures, as it can cause starting difficulty3. A later manual excerpt confirms: quality grade SM minimum, viscosity 5W-40 / 0W-20 / 5W-30, choose per ambient temperature456. One owner (at ~150,000 km mileage) flagged a nuance worth checking directly against the formal approvals document: despite 5W-40 appearing on general viscosity charts, they found only 5W-30 actually listed under the official approvals ("допуски"), with no 5W-40 entry78.

Oil capacity. 4.3L total with a filter change, or 3.9L for an oil-only change (no filter)49.

API standard hierarchy. For reference, API oil-quality letters improve in this order: SL → SN → SM → SP, with SP being the highest/most current standard as of 20241011. ZIC X9 FE is confirmed usable on the X8012. The engine's minimum requirement is API SM13.

A counter-voice notes Japan itself reportedly has only ~1-2 actual oil producers, with other "Japanese" brands merely registered there while relying on subcontracted base stock36. Counterfeit/low-quality oil is common in the market; poor packaging quality is cited as a tell3738. Lukoil is confirmed as the factory (OEM) fill for Russian-market assembly3940. - Mobil-branded oil reported to extend the practical drain interval: one owner's family car showed reduced oil consumption and could go 8,000 km between changes on Mobil, vs. 4,000-6,000 km on other brands4142. Viscosity and mileage. At ~130,000 km on 5W-30, one owner noticed increased oil consumption under spirited driving; switching to 5W-40 was recommended, as the heavier film holds up better in a worn engine4748. That owner's car had a factory fill (at ~85,000 km) of 5W-40 branded "Luckily" with no consumption issues reported at that mileage4950. General guidance: oil-grade choice should track engine wear — higher-mileage engines often do better on the heavier grade515253.

Duratec HE oil spec — WSS-M2-C913-C, and brand recommendations. The Duratec HE engine's specified oil standard is WSS-M2-C913-C. Recommended oils meeting or matching it: ROLF GT 5W-30 (made in Russia, Obninsk — the same facility that produces Syntec- and Tatachи-branded oils), Taif Allegro, and Taif Forte (stated to exactly match the WSS-M2-C913-C spec). The engine is described as tolerant: any correctly-viscosity, correctly-volume motor oil will technically work, but matching the spec is preferred. Factory-approved viscosity grades — restated, with a caution on 10W grades. The manual specifies 0W-20, 5W-30, and 5W-40. Community consensus favors 5W-30 as the standard per-manual choice, with 5W-40 acceptable for summer driving. 10W-40 is not factory-approved; 10W-30 is acceptable for winter use but not recommended for regular use otherwise. Synthetic/semi-synthetic brands mentioned: Rosneft Magnum Ultratec 5W-40, Sintec ExtraLife 7000 5W-40, Mobil, and Lukoil. Change intervals: 5,000-10,000 km depending on city vs. highway use. Choosing viscosity by listening to the engine, not just mileage. A separate framework for the 5W-30-to-10W40 question: stick with synthetic (5W-30 or 5W-40) oil as long as the engine's running sound stays consistent with baseline — i.e. no audible change after an oil change. Only once engine noise noticeably increases following an oil change should a switch to semi-synthetic be considered, since that noise increase signals seal degradation and rising oil consumption consistent with a more worn engine. The recommendation is to base the decision on how the engine actually sounds/behaves rather than on a fixed mileage milestone. Consensus in this thread: stick with 5W-30 or 5W-40 — do not jump directly from 5W-30 to 10W-40 as sometimes claimed online. The "switch to 10W-40 after 100,000+ km" claim circulating online is disputed: some argue it's fine at high mileage, others warn it risks clogging the engine's narrow oil channels (масляные каналы узкие)8586878889909192. Grade/API summary and counterfeit-avoidance strategy. Standards restated concisely — SAE, API, ACEA, and a Mazda-3 caution. Recommended viscosity grades: SAE 5W-30 or 5W-40. API standards: SL, SN, or SP. ACEA standards: A3/B4 or A5/B5. Liqui Moly MOLYGEN NEW GENERATION 5W-30 — real-world results. One owner installed Liqui Moly MOLYGEN NEW GENERATION 5W-30 synthetic oil (5L bottles sourced from a verified Ozon seller) in May 2026. Reported benefits: a noticeably quieter engine, reduced engine noise/whistle, and smoother overall operation. The recommendation originally came from a Mazda 6 owner but was verified as compatible with the X80 given the shared engine platform; the seller guarantees authenticity116117118119120121.

Viscosity choice restated — Mazda-derived engine, manual minimum vs. practice. The X80's Mazda-derived engine has a manual-specified minimum SM grade; one experienced owner runs SL grade instead. If budget allows, a C3-rated viscosity is recommended. The manual does not state a specific upper viscosity limit — only the minimum detergency/quality standard122123.

API class progression — SM (outdated) → SN → SP, restated across two independent, earlier threads. Two separate, earlier community discussions independently converge on the same guidance already documented on this card: SM is the manual's minimum/outdated baseline; SN is the common current standard; SP is the newest and best. SM-SN are backward compatible with each other; SP is superior to both. Russian VMP-brand oil — positive owner experience, cross-vehicle use. Independent of the counterfeit-avoidance and premium-brand guidance already on this card, the domestic ВМП (VMP) brand — which specializes in engine/gearbox additives — received positive feedback from owners. One owner filled twice with VMP and rated its quality as equivalent to imported oils; another owner uses the same brand on a second vehicle (a Hyundai Kreta), reporting a good additive package for engine longevity per community consensus128129130131.

Brand/viscosity recommendations — restated with concrete change-interval and consumption data. A separate community (FAW BESTURN X80 group) restates the core recommendation independently: 5W-40 synthetic, meeting API SN/CF, is recommended as long as it's genuine (non-counterfeit) — the responder notes brand choice is largely a matter of preference ("depends on your faith") among reputable options like Lukoil, Gazprom, Syntek, and Shell147.

All-weather 5W-40 recommended for hot climates — from the second Telegram group. When asked specifically which oil is best for hot weather, a separate response from the same second group states 5W-40 is the ideal viscosity for the X80 in any weather, including hot climates — directly relevant to owners in warm-climate markets like Syria148149.

Engine oil capacity restated — 4.3-4.4L actual vs. 2L on paper, from the second Telegram group. A separate thread in the second group repeats a capacity discrepancy already documented on this card: the spec sheet states 2 liters, but the actual full capacity is ~4.3-4.5 liters. Multiple owners confirm filling to the upper dipstick mark for 4.3-4.4L with no issues over several years of ownership — consistent with the 4.3L (with filter) figure already on this card150151152153154155.

  • Multiple threads on this card disagree about whether 10W-40 is safe on the X80's engine at higher mileage — some recommend it past 150,000 km, others (including a separate exchange on this same card) warn it risks clogging the engine's narrow oil channels; treat 10W-40 adoption as debated rather than settled.
