Engine swap options — Mazda engines

Trigger case. One owner's engine required full replacement after catastrophic overheating damage caused by pouring cold water onto a hot engine. This is presented as a cautionary real-world case of how an engine can go from a running vehicle to a critical-path replacement situation quickly^12345678910.

Mazda engine swap as a solution. A Mazda-engine swap was discussed as the practical path forward, given the X80's shared Duratec HE/Mazda engine lineage. Buyers are advised to research which specific Mazda generation engines are a confirmed fit before purchasing.

Sourcing and pricing (RU market, as of 2025-06-05). Reported price points: 150,000-160,000 RUB for an engine sourced from China, though supply was described as delayed/unreliable at the time; 300,000 RUB for an engine sourced in Moscow. Sourcing from auto-dismantlers (разборки) in Abkhazia was also suggested as a potentially cheaper option, if available. No single confirmed low-cost/fast-turnaround source emerged from this discussion — engine replacement is characterized as a critical-path problem with no simple, readily available aftermarket solution^12345678910.
