Some advice here concerns sub-zero winters and is less relevant in a hot climate.

Typical consumption and influencing factors. Reported typical fuel consumption: about 7 L/100km on the highway, up to 12 L/100km in city driving1. One owner cautions that self-reported consumption figures circulating in the group aren't always reliable (someone claimed as low as 5 L/100km)1. Factors cited as affecting consumption: fuel quality/brand (95 octane isn't always genuinely better — sometimes it's "just additives")12, driving style, wind direction/strength, tire pressure, wheel diameter and weight, engine cleanliness, and the vehicle's Euro emissions standard (the X80 is Euro 5)1. One owner reported roughly 11.9 L/100km as their approximate figure and considers 95 octane normal for their driving23.

High-mileage oil consumption vs. EGR. At around 170,000 km, one owner observed increased oil consumption (burning through about 5,000 km of fill) and wondered whether this might indicate worn piston rings rather than an EGR-related issue; another owner replied it's hard to say — at 170K km "it could be anything"45.

Hydrogen engine cleaning. One owner performed a hydrogen-based engine/intake cleaning service and reported a noticeable improvement: idle RPM became livelier, revs climbed more readily on throttle (closer to manual-transmission responsiveness), versus sluggish 3-3.5 RPM movement on brief throttle blips beforehand. The service also cleans the throttle body and intake system. Cost: about 3,000 RUB (RU market, September 2024), ~1 hour; recommended every 15,000 km, especially after 100,000 km mileage6.

Fuel-warning-light reserve range. When the low-fuel warning light comes on, the car can typically continue for about 60-70 km under normal driving, with 70 km cited as the average/consensus figure by two respondents; actual range varies with speed, load, and terrain789. The exact trigger threshold for the warning light is configurable in the dashboard menu — one owner set theirs to trigger at 120 km of estimated remaining range instead of the default, noting "however you set it, that's how far you'll go" (i.e. the range shown is itself an estimate, not a fixed guarantee)1011.

Dashboard consumption display modes. The dashboard offers two separate, independently resettable trip-consumption trackers, L1 and L2 — their only purpose is to allow separate trip periods to be tracked/reset independently; if neither is reset, both display identical consumption figures121314. Separately, there are two different consumption readouts: an instantaneous/momentary consumption meter (reflecting consumption at that exact moment — e.g. showing ~20 L/100km during hard acceleration is normal and not a fault) and an average consumption figure over the trip/distance15. The remaining-range display ("Остаток пробега" / estimated distance on remaining fuel) is separate from the L1/L2 trip-consumption trackers10.

Manufacturer claim vs. real-world average. The manufacturer's claimed average fuel consumption is 8.2 L/100km, but the real-world community average is closer to 9.5 L/100km16.

Real-world data by fuel type and driving condition (gasoline, automatic). City driving: 11.6-12.1 L/100km (varies by driving style), with one report of 14.3 L/100km in heavy stop-and-go city traffic — that figure already includes a 7% correction for the speedometer's known over-reading. Highway driving: roughly 9 L/100km. On LPG/propane with a properly installed system: 10-11.5 L/100km in the city; a poorly installed system can push consumption as high as 16 L/100km. Consumption is heavily influenced by driving style, engine calibration/tuning, and vehicle load. Note: the speedometer reads roughly 7% high, which affects any consumption figures derived from odometer/speed readings unless corrected171819202122.

LPG cost-efficiency despite higher volumetric consumption. Propane (LPG/LPO) consumes 1-2 liters more per 100 km than gasoline, but its significantly lower per-liter cost makes overall running cost lower. Community consensus: despite the higher volume consumed, LPG remains economically advantageous for high-mileage owners212324.

Additional consumption data points and cluster-accuracy note (batch restated). Further owner reports gathered separately: city driving on AT ranges 12-14 L/100km, highway/mixed 9-12 L/100km depending on style; the instrument cluster's fuel-economy gauge is reported to understate actual consumption by roughly 1 L/100km — actual consumption should be computed fill-to-fill (fuel volume ÷ odometer distance) for accuracy, since the speedometer itself also reads high (see the speedometer/top-speed card)252627282930313233343536373839404142. One AKPP owner at ~58,500 km reports a consistent 14 L/100km in mixed city/highway driving — well above the manufacturer's claimed ~10 L/100km max — despite testing 95-octane fuel and varying driving style; manual-transmission owners in the same batch report 7.2-8.2 L/100km highway and 9-12 L/100km city434445.

Consumption by driving mode and condition (restated). Consumption depends heavily on driving style, load, tire pressure, road type, and oil quality. Careful highway driving on AKPP achieves 7-8 L/100km; winter consumption rises to 13 L/100km; city driving ranges 8-12 L/100km depending on traffic. Turbocharged 1.5T-2.0T variants were reported to be in development by the manufacturer for better low-end torque46474849.

Fuel consumption data from individual fill-to-fill logs. Highway driving at a constant 110 km/h (manual transmission), on a full tank: roughly 30L per 500km (≈16.7 L/100km). In summer, a full tank on the highway without refilling can reach roughly 700km without hitting the reserve. City driving (commute/errands): roughly 60L for 470km (≈12.8 L/100km). Actual economy varies significantly by driving style and conditions5051525354.

95 vs. 92 octane consumption, with a roof box. With a roof rack box installed and highway cruising at 108 km/h, one owner measured approximately 9.2 L/100km on 95-octane fuel versus 9.8 L/100km on 92-octane — a gap reportedly narrowing on longer trips past 200,000 km on the odometer. The owner planned to standardize on 95-octane going forward55.

Octane rating — no benefit above 95. The Duratec HE engine runs fine on both 92 and 95 octane. Testing with 100-octane fuel showed no improvement in dynamics or fuel consumption versus 95; some owners blend 95+100 in roughly a 70/30 ratio for high-speed driving, but running pure 100 continuously was reported to increase consumption with no offsetting performance gain5657585960616263646566676869707172.

Speed-dependent highway consumption table (2.0L AT, 142hp). Real-world consumption on the automatic 2.0L atmospheric (142hp) engine at steady highway speeds: 100 km/h = 8.6 L/100km; 110 km/h = 9.4 L/100km; 120 km/h = 10.1 L/100km; 130 km/h = 9.2 L/100km; 140 km/h = 8.7 L/100km (with cruise control engaged in D mode — the non-monotonic pattern above 120 km/h is as reported). Other owners cite 9-10 L/100km as typical mixed-driving consumption. Fuel used: 92 octane (AI-92)7374757677.

Consumption by transmission type, restated with concrete figures. Manual-transmission 2019 model: 12.5-12.7 L/100km in active city driving on 95 RON fuel. Automatic 2020 model: highway consumption ranges 7.8-22 L/100km depending heavily on speed (higher speed = disproportionately higher consumption); city driving with frequent stops runs 12.5-14 L/100km, also on 95 RON787980.

High-speed consumption and top-speed behavior. At a sustained ~200 km/h, the instantaneous consumption display shows 29 L/100km, with calculated consumption closer to ~17 L/100km (subjectively it feels even higher). The factory speed limiter is 180 km/h (reported reflashable to roughly 200 km/h). One report of a maximum speed of 221 km/h reached downhill, with 175-180 km/h confirmed achievable on level ground. Steering precision is reported to degrade above 200 km/h818283848586.

Typical consumption range and variables, restated with a computer-vs-actual gap. City driving: 12-12.7 L/100km (the trip computer shows a lower figure than actual; the ~12.7 L/100km actual figure was verified via fuel-pump/fill checks). Summer highway: 7.8-8 L/100km. Summer city/mixed: 10.5-11 L/100km. Variables affecting the figures: driving style, road condition, tire pressure, fuel quality, trip length, and number of cold starts per day. A 2019 mechanical (manual) X80 reported 12.7 L/100km city, 8 L/100km highway. Overall, the dashboard fuel computer under-reports; real consumption typically sums to 12-13.5 L/100km in mixed use87888990919293949596979899100101.

Manual-transmission consumption — restated with a wider range including a very low outlier. Additional manual-transmission data points, consistent with the manual-vs-automatic split already on this card: 13-14 L/100km in city driving with A/C running, 9-9.5 L/100km on highway driving (not exceeding 110 km/h). Consumption varies with trip pattern — short ~8km trips consume more per 100km than longer highway runs — and with fuel quality. One owner with mixed Moscow-region driving reported a notably lower 8-9 L/100km, on the low end of what's typically reported for this transmission type102103104105106.

Automatic-transmission city consumption — restated. A separate automatic-transmission data point, consistent with figures already on this card: approximately 10.5 L/100km in city driving, again varying with driving behavior and fuel quality107108.

2.0L naturally-aspirated engine — city figures, verified-at-pump vs. dashboard gap, tire-size effect. For the 2.0L naturally aspirated engine specifically: typical city consumption 7-10 L/100km, up from a previously reported 5-6 L/100km in an earlier year — consumption varies by driving conditions and traffic. One owner's actual verified consumption (calculated from fuel volume added at the pump, not the onboard trip computer, which under-reads by roughly 4-5%) was 8-10 L/100km in city driving — consistent with the computer-vs-actual gap already documented on this card. Larger tire size is noted as reducing fuel economy. For comparison, a Mazda CX-5 2.0L with AWD reportedly shows a similar 10+ L/100km in city driving109110111112113114.

Fuel-grade choice and octane recommendation — restated with a community split figure. Factory recommendation is 92 RON (АИ-92); chipped/tuned engines require 95+ to avoid knocking. On non-chipped engines, 92 is sufficient — no measurable power difference, and 95 costs more for negligible benefit. Cruise control in S mode may show better consumption than D mode despite similar gear selection. Individual factors — driving style, A/C use, oil viscosity, spark plug condition, fuel quality/brand — all significantly affect the numbers152139140141142143148.

City vs. highway spread — an earlier, independent figure. A separate, earlier report: highway 7-8.5 L/100km (smooth cruising), city 10.5-12.5 L/100km (stop-start traffic). AKPP models show similar or slightly higher consumption than manual in this comparison. Fuel grade (92 vs. 95) affects economy less than driving mode does153154155.

Highway speed and economy — 130-140 km/h beats a steady 120 km/h. One comparison found highway driving at 130-140 km/h gives better fuel economy (8.5-9 L/100km) than a steady 120 km/h (9.5-10 L/100km) — suggesting the engine sits in a more efficient operating range at the slightly higher speed, likely due to lower throttle position and more favorable injection mapping at that RPM/load combination156157.

Fuel consumption estimate — restated (2.0L). A later, independent estimate: highway at 120 km/h roughly 10-11 L/100km; city 11-13 L/100km. Premium 95-octane fuel may provide slightly better economy than 92, potentially saving on the order of 50 RUB per tank (RU market, August 2024) — a marginal effect consistent with the octane debate documented above on this card158.

Consumption change after intake/exhaust service — within normal variation, not a mechanical regression. One owner replaced a cracked crankcase-ventilation tube (6-7cm crack), cleaned the intake manifold and throttle body, and changed spark plugs (gap 1.3→1.1mm), then reported a +0.5 L/100km consumption increase over 1,000 km. The dashboard fuel gauge is again reported to under-read actual consumption, by roughly 0.5-1.5 L/100km165166167168169170171172.

Manual-transmission consumption — from the second Telegram group. From the same separate community: 2.0L manual — highway 7.5-9 L/100km; city summer 8.8-9.2 L/100km; city with A/C ~10 L/100km. Manual transmission is again reported roughly 2-3 L/100km better than automatic in comparable conditions, consistent with the transmission-type split already documented on this card171173174175.

City consumption at 30,000 km, automatic transmission — same second Telegram group. The same second community (FAW BESTURN X80 group) reports 11.7 L/100km in city driving at 30,000 km mileage on an automatic-transmission car, consistent with the AKPP city-consumption range already documented on this card. Community reply: this figure is normal for the model and reflects early break-in — smoother driving can improve it somewhat, but a genuinely lower consumption (e.g. matching a Kia Rio 1.4-1.6) isn't realistic for this car176177.

Engine noticeably quieter on Euro 5 (higher-sulfur) fuel — single, low-confidence report. One owner observed the engine running significantly quieter after refueling with Euro 5 grade petrol (described as containing "7.7 sulfur content," likely a shorthand for a specific sulfur spec rather than a standard Euro-5 figure — treat as reported, not verified). The owner noted the change was immediate, on a fill of 40+ liters, while driving the M2 highway near Moscow (2026-09-05). This is a single anecdotal report with no fuel-brand or consumption-figure comparison given — confidence: low178.
