Fuel pump: gasket orientation affects fuel pressure
Tags: #fuel-pump · #gasket
When a failed fuel pump is replaced, the small round rubber gasket/seal at the pump-to-tank interface must be seated in the correct orientation — installing it the wrong way changes fuel pressure enough to prevent the engine from starting at all.
One owner's fuel pump died and was replaced, but the car still would not start. The cause turned out to be simple: the round rubber gasket had been fitted in the wrong position during assembly, which altered fuel pressure. After re-seating the gasket correctly, the pump pressurized normally, the car started, and reportedly ran even better than with the original pump.1
Takeaway: if a car won't start after a fuel pump swap, don't assume the new pump is defective — check that the round gasket/seal is oriented and seated correctly before troubleshooting further.1
