Manual mode downshift behavior and protection
Tags: #automatic-transmission
The X80 automatic transmission's manual mode (selectable via paddle shifter or the lever's "+/−" gate) can be used to downshift while driving, on the move.1
Built-in protection: the transmission has intelligent over-rev protection — it will not execute a manual downshift if doing so would rev the engine beyond a safe RPM limit. If a driver selects an unsafe gear in manual mode, the transmission automatically manages the safety limit rather than blindly obeying the driver's selection.12
