The manual transmission produces a fine-tooth grinding sensation specifically when engaging 2nd gear, accompanied by a slight vibration. 1st gear and 3rd-and-higher gears engage smoothly — this appears to be an isolated issue affecting only the 2nd-gear synchronizer/engagement, not a wider transmission problem¹. 2nd/3rd gear grinding — shift-knob (gaiter) cover as the root cause. 2nd and 3rd gear downshifts producing a grinding/notching noise with audible "pinking." Root cause found in one case: the artificial-leather gear-shift boot/gaiter cover (in the transmission tunnel) dries out and shrinks, physically preventing full gear engagement. Fix: replace the shift-boot cover with a universal artificial-leather replacement (~640 RUB on Ozon, RU market, November 2025) — this fully resolved the noise. Distinct symptom — whining noise (not grinding) on 1st and 2nd gears specifically.
