Drain plug vs. pump extraction. Draining oil through the sump/drain plug requires waiting an extra 5-7 minutes after the main flow stops, as residual oil continues to drip from internal channels12. Using a pump/syringe method to extract oil from the dipstick tube instead leaves roughly 200-500g (0.2-0.5L) of oil behind in the pan34. The pump method can also leave metal shavings/particles suspended in the pan (since nothing is drained from the bottom), whereas the drain-plug method lets those shavings flush out with the oil56. Opinions differ: some owners prefer the pump method for cleanliness/ease, others prefer the drain-plug method despite the longer wait, valuing that it clears out metal particles7.

Oil filter and service kit. A complete service kit (filter + gaskets) for the FAW Besturn X80 is available on Ozon; the oil filter alone costs approximately 400 RUB (September 2024, RU market), with multiple listed options/reviews89. Separately, MANN FILTER W71273 is recommended by owners as the correct oil filter to pair with synthetic oil changes, specifically referenced for X80 cars with automatic transmission10.

Dipstick markings hard to read. The factory oil dipstick has faint/unclear fill-level markings, making it difficult to distinguish the 'add' line from the 'full' line — this makes manual oil-level checks by dipstick alone unreliable without extra care or a flashlight11.

Oil grade and change interval — restated (SM factory spec outdated). The factory spec printed on the car is grade SM, considered outdated by modern standards; SN and SP grades are recommended instead for current use. ZIG (Korean brand) and Takayama oils were both tested with no excessive consumption reported. Recommended change interval: 7,000 km. Higher-grade oils showed no practical fuel-economy penalty compared to the factory SM spec12131415.

Hengst H90W27 filter — reverse-flow-friendly mount orientation. Hengst H90W27 is confirmed as a compatible oil filter. Notably, the X80's filter mounts with the threads facing upward, which eliminates the need for a reverse-flow check valve (unlike many other cars) — avoid filters that include an anti-drainback valve on this platform, since it isn't needed and may not suit this orientation. Typical price: 400-450 RUB (RU market, September 2025) on Ozon (sometimes less with loyalty points)16.

Oil drain plug washer — part number, spec, and why it must be replaced every time. FAW part number for the drain-plug washer: 100902337K. A European equivalent: Elring 115.100. Specifications: aluminum material, 14.5mm inner diameter, 20mm outer diameter, 1.5-2mm thickness. Critical rule: replace this washer at every oil change — reusing it causes thread stripping and oil leaks over time. Over-tightening the drain plug to compensate for a worn/old washer only damages the threads further rather than fixing the seal; a properly replaced washer seals leak-free without needing extra torque1718192021222324.

Oil filter — MANN W 712/73 and Mazda/Nissan cross-fit, from the second Telegram group. A separate community (FAW BESTURN X80 group) recommends MANN W 712/73 (or equivalents) as the oil filter, noting it also fits the Mazda 2/3/6, Nissan Lafesta, and Mazda CX-3/CX-5/CX-7 — available from the Ozon e-commerce marketplace25.

Resetting the service interval reminder after a change. After doing an oil change, the service interval reminder on the dashboard can be reset: press the INFO button (this opens the dashboard menu) → go to Settings → Technical status → press OK on the steering wheel → select Remaining range → press OK → then press and hold the INFO button to trigger the reset26.
