Power loss uphill — compression check

Tags: #diagnostics

Possible causes and the diagnostic path. Loss of power when climbing hills can indicate one of several underlying issues: valve clearance problems (see the valve-lifter/shim-adjustment card for the mechanical-lifter background), carbon buildup on the intake, or reduced cylinder compression. A compression test is the way to gauge severity and narrow down the cause: normal reading is 8.0-9.2 bar per cylinder. One owner's diagnostic sequence: perform a hydrogen-carbon cleaning treatment first, then re-check compression — if compression improves after cleaning, the carbon buildup was the (or a) cause; if compression remains low and unchanged, the problem is likely mechanical (valve or ring wear) and cleaning alone won't fix it, pointing toward valve work instead123.

Revs rise but the car does not pull (reported symptom). An owner reports that when accelerating off a dirt road onto asphalt the revs climb without the car gaining speed, only under power and not while coasting. Members suggest checking the drive shafts (привода) first; on a manual car this symptom would point to clutch slip. Switching to manual mode (Tiptronic) for the pull-out is a temporary workaround, and high revs without thrust in D could mean serious automatic transmission damage4567.
