Gauge-cluster fabric overlay repair

Tags: #dashboard · #trim · #part-number · #paint

The upper gauge-cluster fabric overlay (the trim bezel wrapped around the instrument cluster, part number 5CA059415) commonly falls off because the factory adhesive is inadequate and fails over time ¹²³.

Fix — Cosmofen (космофен) super glue: re-attach the overlay using Cosmofen, a strong cyanoacrylate-type adhesive. Proper application technique: (1) coat the perimeter of the overlay with glue; (2) insert/ seat the overlay into position on the gauge housing; (3) for full, even contact, apply additional glue along the top edge using a syringe rather than just brushing it on. One owner tested this method with durability of roughly 1 year or more without the overlay coming loose again ³⁴⁵⁶.

Sourcing a replacement overlay: if the original overlay is damaged beyond reattachment, replacements are available on AliExpress, with reported delivery times of about 12 days ⁶.

Accidental spill — removing Cosmofen from paint without damage: a related follow-up in the same community, two days after the overlay fix above — Cosmofen (a polyurethane/cyanoacrylate-type adhesive) accidentally spilled onto the car's paint during a repair. It can be safely removed using pharmaceutical-grade Dimexide (dimethyl sulfoxide, "Димексид"): soak a compress/cloth in Dimexide and hold it against the affected area for several minutes; the adhesive softens and can then be wiped off with cotton or gauze. This method does not damage the clear coat or paint underneath. Mechanical alternatives (sandpaper, a nail file) can also work but risk scratching the paint, so the Dimexide method is preferred ^789101112.
