Common noise complaints (2024-05 report). X80 owners report a cluster of minor interior/mechanical noises that recur across the community: clicking/popping sounds when starting from a stop, coil spring squeaks, transmission jerking on takeoff from neutral, dashboard panel squeaks, and door panel noises. One owner at 88,000 km reported these symptoms without having replaced any major components (aside from a mid-exhaust pipe repair).

Community assessment. These noises are treated as common minor issues rather than signs of a reliability or safety problem. Plastic knock inside the dashboard (cause not found). One owner reports a knocking sound from inside the dashboard, like a small flap-type plastic part that moves and knocks. The car was out of warranty, so the dealer had to take the panel apart to look for the source; no cause or fix was reported.
