Seat covers — fitment and pricing

Tags: #restyle · #price

Generation differences: front seats are identical between restyle and pre-restyle models. Rear seats differ: pre-restyle has a split seatback (2 pieces) with a solid cushion; restyle has a solid seatback with a split cushion (2 pieces). This affects seat-cover fitment — custom covers must account for the difference ¹²³⁴.

Pricing (September 2024): universal seat covers cost 7,000–9,000 RUB (RU market, September 2024); custom-fitted covers cost 13,000–15,000 RUB (RU market, September 2024) but require about a 1-month lead time. Most suppliers operate on a pre-order basis; Crimean suppliers may have some stock available. "Autopilot" was mentioned as one supplier brand ^5678910.

Attachment clips are fragile: the decorative plastic clips holding rear seat-cushion covers in place are fragile with poor retention. Installing custom seat covers or cushions over the factory seats often breaks or loses these clips, requiring repeated re-seating during and after installation. Consider aftermarket locking clips or an adhesive alternative if failures keep recurring ¹¹¹²¹³.

Fur covers for climate extremes: leather-interior seats swing between painfully cold (-40°C winters) and burning hot (+40°C summers). Fur seat covers, reused from a previous vehicle for 5+ years by one owner, provide a thermal-insulation/comfort bridge between bare leather and extreme ambient temperatures — strongly recommended by owners with leather interiors ¹⁴¹⁵¹⁶.

Synthetic-leather seat condensation in summer heat: the X80's synthetic leather ("кожзам") seat coverings trap moisture/sweat in hot weather, leaving the seating surface wet and clammy — the X80 has no ventilated-seat option to counter this. Community workaround: use summer seat covers/overlays on the front seats; one owner has used such covers consistently for several years as a long-term solution rather than a one-off fix ¹⁷¹⁸. An Ozon summer seat cover is also recommended for pseudo-leather seats, where the body sticks to the seat; the poster says it lifts the body off the seat ¹⁹.

Autopilot-brand covers (2019–2022 models): Autopilot-brand seat covers are made specifically for the FAW Besturn X80, model years 2019–2022, sold via shop-avtopilot.ru (a pre-facelift/"dorest" version is also listed). Owners using proper ventilated covers of this type report no sweating or mildew, even with heavy daily commuting and occasional long summer trips. Options include alcantara (suede-look) center panels with eco-leather edges — alcantara sits where the back/seat actually contacts the material, which is reported to breathe better than full eco-leather, though a simple seasonal summer overlay is a cheaper/simpler option for cloth-interior cars. Installation is straightforward, no special tools needed ²⁰²¹²².

Summer cooling seat covers/cushions: several fabric-based solutions reported for summer heat: (1) a cooling pad from Yandex Market, tested for 1 year by one owner, machine washable, keeps the back/seat area dry; (2) universal Ozon seat covers in breathable, durable fabric — no sweating in summer and not cold in winter, with 20mm foam padding under the seat bolsters improving fit; (3) a ventilated seat cushion with USB-powered fans — prevents sweat pooling on the seat but back perspiration still occurs, and the fans must be manually switched on each time after the car powers up (no auto-start). Wood-bead seat covers are not effective in this climate. Brute-force cooling still comes only from the A/C ^{2324252627282930313233343536373839}.

Seat cover material selection for durability/comfort: durability depends heavily on material and how much the driver sweats. Avoid velour, micro-suede, and alcantara — these crack quickly under perspiration (as little as ~1 year of life with heavy sweating). Better options: mesh/network weave, jacquard, or quality eco-leather with perforation. Running the A/C in summer to reduce sweating slows degradation regardless of material. Premium covers (16,000+ RUB, RU market, June 2025) with reinforced clips hold up better than cheap covers (8,000 RUB), even under heavy sweating ^{4041424344454647}.

Avtopilot eco-leather covers (diamond-quilted, perforated): eco-leather seat covers with a diamond-quilting pattern from the Avtopilot brand cost 16,000 RUB (RU market, June 2025). Perforated for heat management; durable 1+ year with no wear when installed with quality clips. In practice the perforation is less effective than expected for heat dissipation — heating (seat-heater) function is also noticeably weakened through the perforated material. The material does not crack under normal (non-soaking) sweating ^{4849504151435253}.

Anti-sweat seat pads (grey): separate anti-sweat seat pads are available; one owner chose grey specifically to minimize solar heating. Features non-slip backing and mounting straps. Effectiveness: roughly 30% improvement in back/seat heat retention — useful but not a complete solution, and most effective in cooler seasons (winter) rather than summer heat ⁵⁴⁵⁵.

Budget AliExpress seat covers: seat covers available on AliExpress from 450–500 RUB (RU market, April 2024), multiple sellers offering variations — used mainly for interior protection/customization rather than climate comfort ^5657585960.

Seat cushions and cooling pads (Yandex Marketplace): commercial seat cushions and covers are also available on Yandex Marketplace and similar platforms. One owner reports using summer cooling cushions year-round for comfort, not just in hot weather; these are easy to install and remove without a permanent fitted cover ^6162636465.

Pre-restyle leather seat-cover upgrade with custom padding (Krasnodar shop): one owner installed aftermarket leather seat covers on a 2017 (pre-restyle) X80. Supplier: sevcovers (found via a VK community group), cost 14,000 RUB (RU market, March 2026). Installation was done at a Krasnodar upholstery shop and included custom sewing with thick padding and reinforced lumbar support — the result was professional-grade upholstery, red fabric with black trim ⁶⁶⁶⁷⁶⁸.

Sevcovers VK supplier (Simferopol-Yalta) — pricing and ordering process: custom seat covers are available from sevcovers.vk.ru (a VK group based in the Simferopol-Yalta region, Crimea). Price: ~11,000–14,000 RUB (RU market, April 2026) depending on material (alcantara diamond-stitch is more expensive). Orders must specify model year and trim (pre-facelift vs. facelift) — see the fitment-difference note below for why this matters. Delivery: 25 days standard per the manufacturer, though it can be faster (~10 days) if the production line is ready. Installation can be done DIY or by local upholsterers; some owners take the covers to a shop for final stitching/adjustment ^697071727374.

Pre-facelift vs. facelift seat-cover fitment — side-bolster difference: seat profile differs between pre-facelift ("dorest") and facelift ("rest") models. Pre-facelift seats are flat; facelift seats — especially in luxury trim — have additional side bolsters. Covers must be ordered specifying the exact year/model to fit properly, since side bolsters can interfere with full-coverage covers designed for the flat pre-facelift profile. Some owners report fitting covers onto leather seats is possible but difficult. A professional upholsterer for final adjustments is recommended when doing a DIY installation ^7576777879.

Cover-material comparison — leather vs. fabric vs. Alcantara, plus steering-wheel braid: seat-cover material options and their tradeoffs: leather (synthetic) can stick to skin in hot weather; fabric ("тряпка") is the most comfortable but wears faster; Alcantara performs well in summer heat and doesn't stick to skin. Separately, the steering wheel can be upgraded with a durable fiber-braid cover (340 RUB (RU market, April 2026) on AliExpress with a 54% discount, ~2 hours of labor to sew on). Seat-cover installation labor runs ~3,000 RUB (RU market, April 2026) at shops but is feasible as a DIY job with patience ^{808182838485868788}.

Custom-molded covers from regional manufacturers (2024): custom-molded seat covers for the FAW X80 are available from manufacturers in several Russian cities — Krasnodar, Yalta, and Moscow. Prices range 9,000–16,000 RUB (RU market, June 2024) depending on manufacturer and material quality, with a typical lead time of 2–3 weeks for custom manufacturing. Pre-made/off-the-shelf covers from local markets are reported as a poor quality alternative — professional-grade custom options give a much better appearance and durability ^{8990919293949596979899100101}.

Seat cover upgrade experience — seam failure on driver seat: one owner replaced the factory leather seats with custom leather seat covers after a seam failure on the driver's seat. Reasons for the upgrade: improved durability, better summer comfort (bare leather can get too hot, covers add cushioning), and customization options. Seat covers are noted as a functional alternative to factory leather for extending seat life without a full reupholstery job ^102103104.
