ATF and power-steering fluid — Dexron III vs JWS3309

The question. Which fluid goes into the X80 automatic transmission (automatic transmission, AKPP / АКПП) and the power-steering system (ГУР)? Arсhi 77 first said both take ATF Dexron III, and that a Mazda 6 GG-based rack takes Dexron III power-steering fluid; the ZIC ATF 3 datasheet he posted (GM Dexron III, Ford Mercon, Allison C-4, 36.9 cSt at 40 C, flash point 226 C) is labelled for power steering.¹² Later he said Dexron 6 is better for an automatic and that his own car runs Mobil Multi ATF 3309, and that spec matters less for steering than for the engine.³⁴

The opposing position. Victor says the owner's manual does not list Dexron III and that the fluid should meet JWS3309; ZIC ATF Multi HT carries JWS3309, but he says it is not labelled for steering.⁵⁶ He adds that the fluid Arсhi 77 bought (Wildberries article 556540875) has no spec at all, and that power-steering fluid should meet JWS3309.⁵⁷ The thread did not settle the spec; the AKPP fluid card and the ATF specification reference document JWS-3309 as the required approval for the automatic, and the power steering fluid service card covers the steering side.

Volume and price. The power-steering system takes about 0.8 L; one 1 L bottle was enough when the old fluid was flushed through gradually.⁷ A 4 L container was mentioned at a promo price of 1,800 RUB (RU market, Sep 2026) against about 4,500 RUB regular price elsewhere (RU market, Sep 2026).²⁴

Practical case — Kixx ATF Multi JWS 3309 in the AKPP. Arсhi 77 filled his automatic with Kixx ATF Multi meeting JWS 3309: he bought 8 litres and did two partial drains and refills with a filter change, while many owners do a single drain of about 4 litres.⁸ Victor's rule is to use any fluid that meets the specification in the owner's manual.⁹

Owner's reading: ATF 3309 for gearbox and steering pump (2024). The owner (Oleg Belousov) says the Aisin-built automatic takes ATF 3309 (which he writes as "mobil 33-09" and calls the JWS type) and that the power-steering pump takes 3309 too; he says the dealers chose it for the tolerance the gearbox needs, and warns against topping up with another fluid and then calling the mix 3309. This is his own wording, so check the manual before buying fluid.¹⁰¹¹¹²

Reference: Audi 09G. A shared Audi service-training programme for the 6-speed 09G automatic lists ATF G 052 025 A2 or Esso JWS 3309 and a dry-fill volume of 7.0 L, filled for the life of the gearbox.
