ATF fluid spec JWS-3309, brands and counterfeits

Which ATF the Aisin G09 automatic (and the power steering) takes, which brands owners buy or avoid, and how to spot fake fluid.

Fluid specification. The Aisin G09 / 09G automatic transmission (also referred to in the community as Aisin TF60/TF80) requires ATF-MV, spec JWS-3309. This spec is mandatory for both the automatic transmission (АКПП) and the power steering (ГУР) — a "universal" ATF without the 3309 spec is not compatible and should not be used. OEM factory fill in the power steering is Idemitsu brand.^{1234567891011} Multiple brands meet the JWS-3309 spec, not just Mobil — but quality varies significantly and counterfeit fluid exists, especially sold as Mobil.^{1213141516171819202122}

Power steering (ГУР) and AKPP fluid spec — factory fill color varies (2025-06, documented disagreement). GUR (power steering) and AKPP use the same compatible fluid, spec JWS-3309. Factory fills vary between individual cars: some X80s ship with red "universal" 3309 fluid in both systems; others ship with green Ford-MV-type fluid in the GUR specifically. Some owners have since switched to Dexron III. No single documented manufacturer preference exists across the community's reports — a change/inspection is recommended to verify what's actually in your car. Multi ATF JWS-3309 from the CHEMPIOIL brand is available on Wildberries.^{2324252627282930313233}

AKPP fluid brands and pricing, with counterfeit warning (2025-06 report). Recommended ATF-3309 brands beyond Mobil: Manol 3309, and ZIC ATF Multi HT (specifically marked as a 3309 equivalent). Cost varies by retailer. Caution: verify certificates and sealed metal containers with multiple seals/codes to confirm authenticity — cheaper sources or unmarked "universal" fluids have reportedly turned out to contain transformer oil rather than genuine transmission fluid.^343536373839

Fluid quality — synthetic vs. lower-grade, burn-rate comparison (2025-06 report). One owner compared several ATF fluids through sequential partial changes: ZIC x9 (lower quality — turned dark brown/burnt after only 6,000 km, some oil-burn smell); Genesis + Manol 3309 (newer fill — smoother shifts, better perceived quality); HELIX (previous fill — had degraded). Conclusion: genuine ATF-3309-branded fluids (Genesis, Manol) outperformed multi-purpose substitutes in this owner's observation — the burn rate is directly observable when doing a partial fluid exchange, with premium fluids showing markedly less discoloration/burn.^{40414243444546}

Power steering fluid color re-confirmed as red ATF (2026-03 corroboration). A separate, shorter exchange re-confirms the power steering fluid type is ATF, generally expected to be red, with Mobil 3309 again named as an acceptable brand — consistent with (and a smaller corroborating data point for) the fuller color-variance discussion above.^474849505152 Separately, an owner (Victor) mentioned changing the power steering (ГУР) fluid himself as a DIY task, in the context of comparing it favorably against a shop's high labor quote for an unrelated suspension-arm job — a small corroborating data point that owners do perform the GUR fluid change themselves, not only the AKPP change (2026-08 report).⁵³

Spec confirmation and service labor cost (2025-10 reports). Automatic transmission fluid should carry JWS3309 approval/certification for the X80.⁵⁴ Separately, transmission fluid change labor was quoted at 3,000 RUB (RU market, October 2025).⁵⁵ Power steering (ГУР) fluid is confirmed to be the same as AKPP fluid: JWS3309 Type IV.⁵⁶⁵⁷
