AKPP top-fill access, ports and breather

Filling the transmission from above: where the filler ports are, how the method works, and where the breather (sapun) is routed.
Procedure — top-fill method (Aisin G09 factory access point, undocumented in owner's manual). The Aisin G09 has a factory top-fill plug that allows a faster partial change from above instead of only draining from the bottom. One user confirmed with a dealership that this method exists and is faster/easier than the bottom-only approach. Access is difficult on the X80 but noticeably easier on the FAW B50, which uses the same Aisin 0.9G transmission with a more front-facing, accessible filler bolt.123456789 There is community debate about why the manufacturer doesn't document this method — the working theory is that it's to push owners toward full dealer service replacements.
There are two fill holes on top of the transmission: one has a tortuous internal path (slow to refill through), the other accepts oil more easily. Use a syringe to fill from the top. The engine must be running and the oil warm (~38°C). After refilling, cycle the selector through all gears with a 2–3 second pause per gear before rechecking the level via the lower drain plug (thin steady stream = correct level). Top-fill changes typically move 3–4 liters (not 2.2 L) — this is a partial, not full, change.10111213141516171819202122 Note: to shift the selector out of Park with the battery disconnected, lift the plastic trim to find the white release lever — no need to remove the entire console cover.1011121314
Breather/vent (sapun) location (2025-06 report). The AKPP breather tube ("сапун") routes upward from the transmission via plastic tubing and terminates with a cap up near the roofline, to prevent water ingress while relieving pressure/vacuum. Some owners report theirs is missing — check that the tube and cap are present and intact near the transmission.23242526
Fill access, drain-plug thread, and breather location — early Q&A thread (2026-01/02 report, conflicts with breather location above). The AKPP drain plug thread is M14 × 1.5. For a partial fluid change, one owner directed a fellow member to the "technological fill hole" near where the dipstick sits; another owner reported being unable to locate this fitting at all. A separate exchange noted a bolt at the rear of the transmission ("in the back") that can technically be unscrewed to fill from there, but called this "not realistic" in practice — filling through the drain hole is the practical alternative. On the breather: one owner asked whether a breather (сапун) exists to avoid needing an external flush "apparatus"; the reply confirmed a breather is present but is very thin, visible beside the battery (specifically, to the left of the battery when facing the front of the car, at the point where the battery mount attaches) — with a mention that some owners have filled transmission oil via the oil pressure sensor access point instead. This beside-the-battery breather description has not been reconciled with the separate 2025-06 report elsewhere on this card describing the breather terminating near the roofline — treat as an unresolved discrepancy, possibly reflecting different breather routing across model years. A drive2.ru guide ("АКПП X80 замена ATF, часть 3") was shared as a supplementary reference for the fluid-change procedure.272829303132333435363738394041
