Fuel consumption by driving conditions

Tags: #fuel-consumption · #tires

Some advice here concerns sub-zero winters and is less relevant in a hot climate.

General ranges by driving condition (mixed AT/MT reports). Highway cruise at a comfortable pace: 8.8–9.0 L/100km. City/suburban mixed driving: 12–14 L/100km. Sport-style driving and highway acceleration: 11+ L/100km. Cold-start performance is reported as excellent with a quick engine warm-up. No consistent difference was reported between 92 and 95 octane fuel when driven equally (see octane note below for a separate subjective-preference discussion). Automatic transmission improves ride comfort over manual but tends to cost more in city fuel economy. Typical daily mileage for many owners is only 5–10 km/day, with seasonal variation.12345678

Manual transmission (MT) — city and highway figures. MT-equipped owners consistently report 7–7.5 L/100km in normal city driving. Winter consumption rises to roughly 10 L/100km due to engine warm-up time — excessive idle warm-up before driving further increases winter consumption. One driver recorded 5.6 L/100km on a ~50 km highway stretch without loading the engine, described as a "record run" achieved by not rushing; this is a best-case data point, not a typical average.910111213

Automatic transmission (AT) — city and highway figures. AT-equipped owners report 10–13.4 L/100km in city driving. One owner reported 13.4 L/100km despite claiming exclusively highway driving in "Drive" mode (no sport mode engaged) — a notably high figure for highway-only use, suggesting either heavy traffic conditions or a less economical driving style than intended. Highway-specific consumption for AT cars drops to roughly 10 L/100km for other owners. Variation is attributed to driving style, engine warm-up duration, and city traffic patterns.14151617189

Tire size increase raises consumption by roughly 1+ L/100km (2026-06 report). One owner switched to a larger tire size in the fall and observed a consumption jump from a prior 5–6 L/100km to 7–10 L/100km — the owner attributed the increase primarily to the tire-size change rather than season/weather alone. General technical takeaway: larger tires increase rolling resistance and effective gearing load, adding roughly 1+ L/100km — this should be factored in when selecting non-OEM tire sizes, alongside the OEM tire-fitment data documented on the dedicated tire-fitment card.19

Octane preference — subjective, no confirmed technical requirement (conflict/nuance noted). Multiple owners report a subjective preference for 95-octane over 92-octane: smoother engine response and better throttle feel, with some noting audible harshness specifically when running 92. One AT-equipped owner reports the car came from the factory running 95 (fueled at Gazprom stations). There is no documented technical consensus that the engine requires 95 for correct operation or is factory-tuned specifically for it — the community's own general-ranges data point above found no consistent consumption difference between the two octane grades when driven equally, so the 95-preference reports are best read as subjective smoothness/feel claims rather than an established spec requirement.202122
