Fuel filter replacement cost and contamination example

Pricing (RU market, November 2024): - Complete fuel filter assembly with housing: 6,000 RUB from a service center.¹² - Separate filter element only, on Ozon: 1,600 RUB.² - Cheapest option reported: 400 RUB for the filter element only, from a budget retailer.¹³⁴

Prices vary significantly by supplier — shop around before buying the full housing assembly if only the element needs replacing.¹⁵²³⁴

Contamination example. One owner's photo shows a fuel filter heavily contaminated with a thick layer of black particulate soot/sludge, pulled after a fuel pump replacement — evidence that fuel-system contamination can be a root cause of hard-starting/running problems, not just the pump itself.⁶

Screen/strainer must also be addressed (2025-04 report). When replacing the fuel filter, the coarser pre-filter screen/strainer should also be replaced or cleaned — factory service notes it is not included in standard filter kits and must be purchased separately. Technically the screen can be cleaned rather than replaced, but the service recommendation is to replace it for optimal performance.⁷⁸⁹

Clogging depends on fuel quality more than mileage (2026-09 report). Serega found debris in the fuel filter at about 50,000 km and thinks it built up over the last couple of months; Arсhi 77 argues mileage matters less than the fuel — a filter can look fine after 100 km yet clog within 1,000 km with current, poor-quality fuel.¹⁰¹¹¹²
