The FAW X80 exists in two visual generations, referred to in the community by their Russian shorthand: Pre-Restyling / Pre-facelift (Дорестайлинг, до-рест) and Restyling / Facelift (Рестайлинг, рест).

Timing: pre-facelift production runs through August 2018; facelift from August 2018 onward (some sources say January 2019). The styling shift is described informally as going from a "softer"/"kind" (добрый) to a more "aggressive"/"angry" (злой) look, with updated front/rear fascias and headlights, a larger/simpler center console change, and different infotainment capabilities. Because of the mid-year cutover, 2018-model-year cars exist in both versions depending on the production month.¹²³⁴

Visual identification between the two: headlight design, radiator grille shape, and rear light design differ. Pre-Restyling cars lack parking sensors. Door/panel interchange caution: pre-facelift (2017–2018) and facelift (2019+) door panels differ in internal structure and taillight mounting. Both generations share the same overall frame opening and body-line alignment, so doors may visually bolt on at the frame level — but internal reinforcement, mounting points, and decorative trim differ, and mixing generations produces an incomplete or mismatched appearance. Full door replacement requires matching the door to the body generation carefully.^{14151617181920}

Instrument cluster behavior (facelift only): on facelift-model automatics, the instrument cluster displays only the current gear-selector position (D, R, N, P) — not the actual gear the transmission has engaged. Pre-facelift models may behave differently on this point. This is described as a known display limitation on post-2019 facelift cars, not a fault.^21222324
