Platform origin — Mazda 6 GG / B50 heritage

Tags: #mazda-6-compat

FAW Besturn X80 is built on the Mazda 6 GG platform (2nd-generation Mazda 6, 2002–2008 chassis generation). The floor pan is sourced from the Mazda CX-5; interior components (dashboard, panels) come from the Mazda 6 GG; bodywork (doors, hood, trunk, fenders) is custom-designed by FAW to give the SUV/crossover profile. Roughly 90% of mechanical components are sourced from or licensed from Mazda. The front suspension uses a full support bearing (vs. a bushing on the Mazda), and spring heights differ from Mazda due to the crossover adaptation.1234567891011

Genealogically, the X80 (restyled) shares its platform with the pre-restyled FAW B50 (1st generation, 2009–2014) — both are built on the Mazda 6 GG (4th generation Mazda 6 in this account) foundation. Shared components: floor pan, subframe, engine mounts, air filters (engine and cabin), and suspension pickup points. Differences versus the B50: the X80 has a raised suspension (20–30 cm higher), modified body panels for the SUV profile, and an updated interior. Wheelbase is identical between B50 and X80; overall length differs by ~2 cm. Practical implication: many Mazda 6 GG parts are cross-compatible — engine mounts, bushings, transmission components, filters.1213141516171819

A separate community summary states the X80 platform is based on Mazda-6 (2002–2008 generation), the automatic transmission (АКПП) is FAW-proprietary but built on Aisin principles, and many consumable parts interchange with Mazda 6, Mazda CX-5, Ford, Volvo, and the FAW B50. A pinned message in the X80 community group lists common part cross-references.20

Members (Arсhi 77, Victor) say the FAW Bestune B50 and the X80 share the same internals — engines, gearboxes and driveshafts — and differ mainly in the body, which is why B50 part listings are used as cross-references for the X80. Confidence is medium (community statement, not a factory document).2122

Caution on parts interchange: FAW X80 shares many parts with the Mazda 6 (II–III generations, 2007–2017 models sold on the Russian market) but several items require care — hubs, brake pads, CV joints, fan assembly (fan block), intake manifold, and upper control arms appear compatible but may need angle/alignment adjustment or replacement in pairs; ball joints on the upper arm do not fit the standard Mazda part; the front strut differs slightly. Differential fitment across the Mazda GG/GJ/GL generations needs individual verification before ordering.23

Engine and drivetrain component sourcing also draws on Korean suppliers and Bosch (Germany) — confirming a mixed-supplier OEM procurement strategy rather than single-source Mazda platform engineering.24
