The FAW X80's automatic transmission requires fluid meeting spec 3309 ¹². This was raised while a member was troubleshooting an AT fluid/filter service and asked about the correct spec for a 2019 model ³⁴⁵⁶.

Avoid "universal" multi-vehicle fluids — even ones that list 3309 among their specs. There is a confirmed case where using a universal multi-spec fluid caused the transmission to refuse to properly engage, and the owner had to have the fluid changed a second time to resolve it ⁷⁸⁹¹⁰. The recommendation from a longtime member: rather than a multi-fluid, use a fluid with a straightforward, confirmed 3309 spec — MANNOL MULTIVEHICLE JWS 3309 was specifically verified working in the field by community members ^11121314215. Valvoline Light & Heavy Duty ATF/CVT fluid was also discussed/linked as an option, though members debated whether its labeling as "multi" fluid made it risky in the same way ¹⁶¹⁷¹³.

Maintenance note: when the fluid is changed, regular service should also include filter sieving/cleaning ("продувка") and pan cleaning if the pan is removed ¹⁸.

Transmission seal price and labor — official dealer quote (Sept 2025). A member called the official FAW dealer (Kaliningrad) about a transmission fluid service: the transmission seal was not in stock and had to be special-ordered — cost 1,200 RUB (RU market, September 2025), with an estimated 1-week wait, and 2,800 RUB labor (same quote) for the service. Aftermarket seal options were mentioned but pricing wasn't captured ¹⁹.

Pan gasket brand recommendation for fluid changes (Feb 2026). After a complete transmission fluid change, the BRAVE BREK124 pan gasket is recommended. Cheap Chinese gaskets sourced from KitZap and similar suppliers were reported to blow out after 2–3 days. VAG-brand equivalents were also confirmed working by another member. When replacing the gasket, the spacer/washer assemblies should stay OEM — aftermarket spacers/washers are noted as slightly taller than the OEM height, which can cause fitment issues ^20212223.

Transmission seal part number and cross-compatibility (Dec 2025). The automatic transmission's right-driveshaft seal part number is 90311-40A014 ²⁴. This same part number is confirmed identical for both the FAW Besturn X80 and the FAW Besturn B50, across all production years — one member asked specifically whether there was a difference between the two models' AT seals, and another confirmed the part is the same for both ²⁵²⁶²⁷.
