Drive shaft seal — OEM vs. aftermarket. Drive shaft seals leak even when properly installed and correctly seated if they're aftermarket ("аналоги") — they consistently fail to hold pressure and seep oil, particularly at the right-side drive shaft. The FAW original seal design includes a special rubber skirt ("юбочка") that noticeably improves sealing versus aftermarket versions lacking this feature. Despite the higher cost, the OEM seal is recommended to avoid repeated failures and labor charges ¹.

Mazda cross-compatibility. Drive/transmission seals sourced from Mazda parts are also reported to cross-fit the X80's transmission box ².

Drive axle seal (manual transmission) sourcing. Left drive axle seals are a common wear item; MT and AT seals are different parts — do not assume interchangeability ³⁴⁵⁶. Available on Wildberries and Chinese platforms (AliExpress, Kitaisky Zapad); pricing on Wildberries is comparable to AliExpress but with more convenient local pickup points. Left drive axle seal leak from tripod breakdown (Sept 2025). One member's left drive axle seal leaked because the tripod joint had broken apart inside it; the fix was replacing the part (manual transmission) and sourcing it from kitparts. Left and right drive axle seals are confirmed identical/interchangeable with each other (unlike MT vs. AT seals, which are different — see above) ^{2425262728293031}.

External CV joint (CVJT) — part BM1122510MT (Oct 2025). FAW external CV joint (SHRUS) for the X80, part number BM1122510MT. Ozon lead time reported as 2+ weeks; ordering directly via SDEK gave 3-day delivery instead ^323334353637.

No exact analog for the manual-transmission CV joint. A member searching for a manual-transmission CV joint alternative found no direct analog; the Mazda 626 2.0 (1997–2002) was suggested as similar, but measurement showed its shaft is ~0.3 mm smaller in diameter, preventing a direct fit without machining ^323839404142. Pricing comparison (Oct 2025, RU market): FAW OEM CV joint BM1122510MT at 8,500 RUB (Vasily) / 10,000 RUB (Ozon) vs. the impractical Mazda alternative due to the shaft mismatch ^353643444546.

Inner CV joint spline-count variations. X80 models use inner CV joints with different spline counts depending on transmission and generation: automatic transmissions typically use 24 splines; manual transmissions use 26 splines (tripoid-type). Other variants with 30, 32, and 33 splines also exist. FAW's own factory cannot determine the correct type from VIN alone — physical spline-count verification is required. Manual transmissions also differ from automatics in outer-shaft geometry. The Russian market predominantly uses 24-spline units on automatics ^474849505152.

Pre-restyled automatic — full spec (2017 and earlier). For pre-restyled (2017 and earlier) automatic-transmission X80s: external CV joint = 28 splines, internal CV joint = 24 splines, spline diameter ~28.8 mm. OEM part number for the automatic: BM1122510 (without the "MT" suffix used for manual-transmission units above) ⁵³⁵⁴⁵⁵.

Cross-model compatibility strategy. Exact OEM CV joints are hard to source given the many variants across years/transmissions, and many aftermarket units don't fit without modification. Recommended approach: identify the exact spline count and joint type from a donor vehicle first; salvage yards may stock compatible units from other brands — one X80 owner successfully used a Kia Spectra outer CV joint. Cross-model compatibility exists but always requires manually verifying spline count, shaft diameter, and attachment method before buying ^5657585960.

Manual-transmission CV joints — complete assembly only. For manual-transmission X80s, CV joints (SHRUS) are only available as a complete assembly, not as separate components. Sources: KitZap, KitParts, KitZapchasti — availability varies, so check stock before ordering ⁶¹⁶².

CV joint dust boot — polyurethane alternative from Lada Largus (July 2026). The rubber dust boots included in Chinese aftermarket CV-joint kits are poor quality. A polyurethane dust boot from the Lada Largus (ЛАДА Ларгус) fits the X80's CV joints well — dimensions match perfectly despite the different manufacturer/model. The polyurethane version is more rigid/durable than the stock-style rubber boot. One member installed new CV joints with hubs, decided not to use either the kit's rubber boot or the KitZap-sourced rubber one (both rubber), and instead sourced the polyurethane Largus boot from the market after measuring it against the original ⁶³⁶⁴⁶⁵.

Outer CV joint — INKO 28/30/44, cross-model sharing, and a fitment conflict (July–August 2026). The X80 pre-facelift automatic transmission shares the same outer CV joint as the restyled X80F and the B50 ⁶⁶. An INKO outer CV joint (ШРУС наружный 28/30 ABS 44) bought via Wildberries (wildberries.ru/catalog/186740444) fit one member's automatic-transmission car perfectly, with matching spline count ⁶⁷. Arсhi 77 argues the outer CV joint's geometry (spline count, diameter, length) is set by the drive shaft and wheel hub design, not by the gearbox — and since the X80's drive shaft is unified across MT and AT, the outer joint should be the same for both ⁷¹. Conflict: despite ordering the same INKO 319092A part per these published specs, Андрей Б. found it did not fit — the wheel/hub side fit perfectly, but the shaft side would not engage, forcing a return ⁷². Victor noted the hub side takes 28 splines ⁷³; Андрей Б. planned to measure the OEM part on arrival, noting other members suggested fitment issues may not be explained by spline count alone ⁷⁴. Net: the "same joint fits AT and MT" claim is disputed by at least one real-world fitment failure with a nominally correct part.

Inner CV joint — ball-type reported on a manual transmission (July 2026), conflicting with the tripoid design noted above. A member's mechanic, working on a manual-transmission left inner CV joint, was surprised to find it was a ball-type joint rather than the more common tripoid type, and could not find it sold separately from the complete drive shaft ⁷⁵⁷⁶⁷⁷. Vasily explained this is not unusual — manufacturers are increasingly using ball-type joints instead of tripod-type on newer designs — and noted his own replacement left-drive MT part was in transit ⁷⁸. Complete drive assembly sourcing — vendor and marketplace options (July 2026). After a right-side drive (with support/carrier bearing) sheared on a manual-transmission car, a member sought a complete replacement drive assembly including the support bearing. Options surfaced: vendor Vasily (contact via direct message) ⁷⁹⁸⁰⁸¹, the Avito marketplace, and vedro.pro, which offered a complete assembly at 15,000 RUB (RU market, July 2026) ⁸². This is well below the 13,000–27,000+ RUB range for complete assemblies recorded elsewhere in this card, underlining how much assembly pricing varies by source/condition ^79808182.

Drive shaft (ШРУС) part numbers differ by side (August 2026). External drive shafts are not the same part on both sides: 5CA02560X is the right-side shaft (longer), 5CA02550X is the left-side shaft (shorter) ⁸³⁸⁴.
