Towing hitch (farkop) — installation

Tags: #installation · #availability

Installation procedure. Fitting an aftermarket towing hitch requires removing the lower bumper skirt only — the upper bumper stays in place ¹²³. Removal technique: pull the top part of the skirt toward you, then unscrew the self-tapping screws from the bottom ⁴. For the hitch's electrical wiring, there is enough space to route cables from the left side, near the rear light ⁵⁶. The owner's manual does not recommend installing a tow hitch, but many owners do so anyway without reported issues ⁷.

Availability. - As of 2024-10-19, one owner installed a hitch himself; sourcing required searching outside official channels ¹². - By 2024-10-21, an aftermarket hitch became available for retail sale on Ozon — summer 2024 had been a shortage period before that ⁸. - A specific model, Sheriff 3951.12 (X80 fitment), is available through nakuzov.ru and other major Russian auto-parts retailers: https://nakuzov.ru/catalog/farkopy-i-komplektuyushchie/farkopy/farkop_sherif_3951_12_dlya_faw_besturn_x80/ ⁹.

Towing hook (buksirovochnaya petlya/kryuk) — a different, factory recovery-loop part, not the aftermarket hitch above. OEM towing hook part 5DA050EJO (also cross-referenced from the FAW T77 platform) has thread spec M20×2.5 — confirmed by physical caliper measurement of the threads on a removed unit ^{1011121314151617181920212223242526}. Original cost was 900 RUB in 2021 (RU market). A Lada Largus towing hook (~600 RUB, RU market, as of October 2025) has been used by one owner as a budget alternative — reportedly fitting a Besturn B50 and possibly (unconfirmed) the X80 too. Factory-price quotes were reported as fluctuating with the Yuan exchange rate, and members note that hooks matching this part number are either out of stock or priced very high through normal retail channels ^27282930. Conflict: a VW Polo towing hook was also mentioned by community members as a possible fitment, but this was not confirmed within this discussion ²⁶.
