Some advice here concerns sub-zero winters and is less relevant in a hot climate.
Community members disagree on this topic — both positions are reported.
Conflict — studded vs. studless ("липучка"), depends heavily on region. The community debate (Oct 2025) did not settle on one answer; instead it surfaced a clear regional/road-maintenance split: - Studded tires were argued to be necessary where ice/snow persists on roads and maintenance is inconsistent — e.g. Tatarstan, where one member said "without studs you'll be driving in ruts" 123456789101112131415. - Studless ("липучка"/friction) tires were argued as adequate — even preferable — in cities with frequent road clearing/salting, such as Moscow city center, though members noted courtyards and side streets in the same cities are often not cleared as well, undercutting the studless case there 161718781115. - Trade-off cited: wider/studded tires can increase braking distance and road noise versus a narrower or studless setup, but studded tires provide more consistent grip on ice 19202122.
Brand recommendations (positive reports, no negative reports captured for these specific brands in this discussion): - Bridgestone and Michelin studless tires — reported to perform well 1718. - Landsail Ice Star IS37 — mentioned with positive reviews. - Users reported 1+ years of good performance with a tire type matched to their local climate/road conditions, reinforcing that the "right" choice is regional rather than universal 451314.
R17 size and brand comparison, with multi-year stud-retention data (September 2026). For R17 wheels, size 225/60-17 was recommended as better value than 225/65-17, which is a noticeably larger-diameter tire and priced accordingly; oddly, the smaller 215/60 and 215/65 sizes were reported as more expensive than 225/60-17 23. One member gave a multi-year comparison of stud retention: Formula Ice studs held up extremely well — after 5 years of use only about 15% of studs were lost before the tires were sold; by contrast, Tigar studded tires that came with a used car showed significantly worse stud retention over a comparable period 23. Ikon Snow 3 SUV was separately reported as a tire currently in use and recommended 24. Sailun Ice Blazer was recommended based on confirmed use across two vehicles, at roughly 30,000 RUB per set (September 2026, RU market); the same member noted Sailun's summer tire line also performs well 25.
Winter wheel and tyre sizing. The car runs all-season 215/60 R17 on stock rims with TPMS sensors. For winter, a 16-inch set in 215/65 R16 keeps the rolling radius close to stock; 225/65 R16 or 225/60 R17 are alternatives. A 6.5J rim on 16 inches fits narrower than the stock 7-7.5J. A positive offset (ET) of 35-45 sits flush with the wing and ET 57.7 sits deeper; unsprung weight depends on wheel and tyre weight, so compare specifications before buying 262728.
