Clutch pedal bracket fracture (B50 design flaw)

Tags: #clutch · #manual-transmission

On manual-transmission FAW Besturn X80s, the side mounting bracket ("лапка") of the clutch pedal frequently fractures. This is described as a common issue, not an isolated case¹. A broken bracket lets the clutch pedal not fully depress, so the clutch partially disengages even at full travel, and the pedal starts to squeak before the break becomes obvious¹²³. One owner had recently fitted a new clutch and could not understand why it "didn't fully release" until finding the fractured bracket³.

The fracture happens at the weld point on the bracket, where the metal quality is visibly poor⁴⁵⁶. Community consensus is that this is an inherited design deficiency: the same weak bracket design was carried over from the FAW B50 platform, and the fault has reportedly existed for a long time on that platform⁴.

How to check for it. The bracket is visible from inside the cabin: lie on your side on the driver's floor mat with a flashlight and look closely at the pedal assembly from as close as possible⁷⁸. A squeaking noise from the clutch pedal is an early warning sign worth checking before the bracket fully separates².
