Right drive shaft: play and steering-wheel vibration. On an automatic car (AKPP / АКПП) the right drive shaft (привод) had play in the splines (шлицы) and slight play in the tripod joint (трипоид), causing steering-wheel vibration at about 120 km/h1. Another owner said new CV parts are required and the grease must be topped up, otherwise the repair will not last half a year2. A second owner reports vibration and jerks from about 120 km/h, play in both tripod joints and an alignment that pulls to the right3. Victor suggests the vibration may come from the joint between the inner CV joint and the intermediate shaft (промежуточный вал), a known Mazda 6 problem, where some owners bolt and others weld the connection4. For the symptoms that tell outer from inner joint damage see CV joint (ШРУС) damage diagnosis.
Replacing the inner CV joint does not always cure it. Victor replaced the right inner CV joint on a manual car (MKPP / МКПП), using a Mazda 3 2.0 MT inner joint that he says fits, but found the Chinese replacements poor and a play (лифт) on the intermediate shaft56. Removing the joint meant driving the shaft out through the housing and filing lugs, which damaged the end plug; the vibration only moved from 90-110 km/h to 35-55 km/h67. Victor made the same observation on the automatic: a replacement CV joint cured the 90-110 km/h vibration but gave a new one at 35-55 km/h with cheap Chinese parts8. Another owner replaced both right CV joints on his manual car and found it a big hassle9.
Torn inner CV boot (пыльник ШРУСа) on a manual car. The dealer quoted about 7,250 RUB (RU market, October 2026) for the original joint and sold only original parts, while a universal boot cost 921 RUB (RU market, October 2026)1011. Victor drove about 3,000 km on a torn boot with a vibration that later went away and found no damage on strip-down11. If the joint shows no play up to 130 km/h he says it need not be replaced: remove the half-shaft, cut off the old boot, wash out the old grease, repack with ШРУС-4 molybdenum grease and pull a neoprene boot (about 700 RUB, RU market, October 2026; 88 or 90 mm) over the shaft, which stretches from 25 to 100 mm12. Arсhi 77 says a cone tool lets any boot be fitted without removing the joint1314.
Intermediate shaft bearing: howl and oil leak. One owner heard a howl or whistle that does not change with steering, felt faint vibration in the pedal and found oily staining on the gearbox side; photos show dark oil on the gearbox casing and near the shaft boot, with no label for the exact leak point. A new wheel hub assembly did not fix it, so the hub was ruled out1516. Victor suggested grease could have been packed under the intermediate-shaft support seals, or that tripod grease escapes along the shaft splines if the CV joint bottom was knocked out1617. Arсhi 77 suspects bearing wear letting the seal leak and quoted an unverified AI answer blaming a clogged gearbox breather that raises pressure and pushes oil out1819. Victor doubts the bearing holds enough grease to leak. Replacing the bearing means disconnecting the drive shaft, which he described as very hard work20. No cause was confirmed.
Hum in 3rd and 4th gear under load (automatic). One owner heard a drone in 3rd and 4th gear at about 70 km/h, only under load on hills; it stopped once revs were kept above about 2,000 rpm after a downshift, and staying at 2,000-2,500 rpm avoided it21. Victor listed the usual suspects: engine mounts, clutch, drive shafts and bearings22. No cause was confirmed.
