ESP light and the "drunk road" error code

Clearing the "drunk road" (пьяная дорога) ESP error code. This error, triggered by wheel slip or sharp turns on low-friction surfaces, requires professional service with specialized diagnostic software — a simple battery disconnection does not resolve it¹²³. The error is caused primarily (~80% of cases) by ABS firmware, and may also be influenced by an aftermarket head unit ("магнитола")⁴⁵. Professional clearing cost: 1,500–2,200 RUB (Dec 2024, RU market), sometimes including a technical wash. A dealer confirmed that OD (original-dealer-equipment) programming is required⁶⁷⁸⁹¹⁰.

ESP light activating during off-road driving without wheel slip. Separately, the ESP warning light can activate during off-road/gravel driving with no actual wheel slip occurring, particularly on cars with an aftermarket head unit installed¹¹¹²¹³. The official dealership can clear the codes and states this "happens sometimes." Suspected cause: an incorrectly installed aftermarket stereo interfering with the vehicle's data network — original-equipment head units rarely trigger this^141516171819.
