Power steering pump failure — warranty denials

Warranty denied. An owner who bought a 2021 X80 from an official dealer had a power-steering (GUR) pump failure diagnosed at a scheduled service in 2024 (~3 years of ownership). The dealer refused to cover it under warranty¹. Community advice: check the service book — warranty terms and component-specific exclusions are listed there, and if the steering pump isn't explicitly excluded, the denial is improper². The owner checked and could not find an explicit exclusion for the part in her book³. Further community input clarified that most components carry mileage caps of 40,000 / 60,000, or at most 90,000 km — not the full marketed multi-year warranty period — so a failure past those limits, even within the calendar warranty window, can legitimately fall outside coverage⁴.

Counter-example — warranty honored. A different owner (2018 restyle, bought new in May 2019) reported the opposite experience: her dealer in Almetyevsk replaced a failed GUR pump under warranty without dispute, diagnosing and replacing it themselves; the failure and replacement happened roughly 3–3.5 years into ownership⁵.

Takeaway: GUR pump warranty coverage is inconsistent across dealers and appears to depend on mileage at time of failure relative to per-component caps (40k/60k/90k km) rather than the calendar warranty years alone. Read the service book's component-specific limits carefully before accepting a dealer's refusal.
