Steering wheel button controls not responding correctly

Steering wheel remote control buttons (volume +/−) intermittently malfunction or don't respond to quick presses — a video from one owner shows the volume-down button triggering volume-up on the head unit, and the next-track button producing unrelated results1. The common cause is oxidized contacts inside the button control module. Fix: remove the steering wheel button block and clean the contacts. Workaround until repaired: hold the button longer rather than tapping quickly — sustained pressure works more reliably than brief presses2.
