Rear suspension bolts seized by corrosion

Tags: #bushing · #corrosion · #rear-suspension · #drive-shaft

While replacing a left rear bushing (сайлентблок) on a 2017 X80, an owner could not remove the mounting bolt — it would not budge despite both heating and soaking with penetrating fluid, and a shop suggested it might need to be bought as new (implying the fastener/hardware may be a write-off)1. Community response: this is a known, expected failure mode — suspension bolts can seize badly enough from corrosion ("прикипают") that they sometimes have to be cut or drilled out rather than unscrewed, even after heating and soaking2. Takeaway: budget for the possibility of cutting/drilling seized suspension hardware on cars with meaningful corrosion exposure, and make sure the shop doing the work has appropriate cutting tools, not just heat and penetrating oil.

Drive shaft seized in the wheel hub. A left drive shaft (привод) seized in the wheel hub (ступица) while Victor was working on the rear shock bolts, which were also seized3. Members suggest heating with a torch and cooling quickly, but a badly rusted hub may still not release the shaft45. Victor's brother heated a Murano hub and the ABS ring (кольцо ABS) later floated, so the hub bearing and hub had to be replaced6. One member ended up cutting the drive shaft6. For the shaft itself see drive shaft vibration and CV joint repair.
