Diagnosing a failed hydro-mount: two checks were suggested for the front engine hydro-mount: (1) reach a hand underneath and feel for a bulge/swelling ("udder-like" protrusion) on the rubber element — if present, the mount is dead; (2) check the position of the upper shaft relative to the mount — a gap of roughly 1cm at rest is the normal condition. One owner at 90,000 km with light residual vibration after a mount replacement suspected the other (left) mount might also be starting to fail 123.
Cross-brand alternative — SWAG (VW Golf) welded in: a SWAG-brand hydro-mount sourced from a VW Golf was welded into the mount housing as a replacement, following the same general design as a similar Mazda-based swap. Some residual vibration reportedly remained even after this fix. One contributor noted that Chery-platform vehicles don't seem to exhibit the same vibration issue, possibly due to differences in transmission type 456.
Engine knock/roar under load at low speed — possibly mount-related: a separate but related symptom — a "roaring" or knocking noise when driving in a high gear at low speed (i.e. under load, low RPM) — occurs only within a specific RPM range and cannot be reproduced with the engine off or idling. It was not reliably associated with an exhaust smell underhood (one owner's exhaust-leak theory was disputed). Community hypothesis: the noise may be related to engine-mount movement under asymmetric load — either worn mounts generally, or the engine tilting/ shifting position due to a failed hydro-mount transferring load differently through the transmission — though this was not conclusively confirmed in the thread 78910.
GUD-brand (German, VW-spec) mount replacement — mixed results on noise: a GUD-brand engine mount (described in the group as a German brand made for Volkswagen applications) was installed specifically to fix an uneven/tilted engine idle; after replacement, the engine sits level again, which several owners view as a straightforward win. Its effect on the roaring/knock noise above is disputed: one owner (who replaced the right mount with GUD) reported the roaring noise persisted essentially unchanged, suggesting the mount was not the root cause in his case; a different owner reported the roaring became somewhat quieter after his own mount work. Possible confound raised by the community: engine/exhaust acoustic characteristics inherent to the design, rather than mount condition, may explain some of the noise variance between cars 1112131415.
Right engine mount — OEM Mazda recommended, ~8,000 RUB (RU market, October 2025), quality varies even for genuine parts (Oct 2025): for a right engine mount replacement (a common source of knock/rattle), the community recommendation is genuine OEM Mazda, at roughly 8,000 RUB — but even buying genuine, quality can vary noticeably between individual units, so this is not a guaranteed fix-and-forget purchase. Non-OEM options exist at lower price points but were not further detailed in this report 1617.
Rear engine mount — check for cracks as a cold-weather clunk source: cross-referencing the extensive cold-weather suspension-clunking diagnostic thread on the suspension noise checklist, the rear engine mount (задняя опора ДВС) is specifically called out as worth inspecting for cracks or deterioration when diagnosing clunking that appears or worsens in cold weather — see that card for the full, disputed multi-cause diagnostic discussion 18.
Hydro mounts as a known platform weakness ("Mazda drivers"): hydro mounts are described by the community as a recurring weak point on this platform, affecting cars colloquially referred to as "Mazda drivers" (i.e. this X80/Mazda-derived drivetrain layout). Replacement mounts fail fast: genuine Mazda mounts cost 12,000–14,000₽ each (RU market) but lose their internal clearance (зазор) after only a few months of use, requiring repeat replacement. Community workarounds attempted: hybrid mounts combining the X80's mounting block with a VW Golf or Lada Vesta mount assembly — but these are also reported as temporary fixes, not a permanent solution. Replacing all mounts at once does not by itself stop the recurring failure pattern 192021222324.
Combined fix: front springs + 20mm rear spacers + Tzerli engine mount: one owner's combined suspension/mount upgrade — new front springs (Suffix brand), 20mm rear spacer plates (see rear springs and front lift spacers), and a Tzerli-brand engine mount — produced a noticeable reduction in cabin vibration, eliminated a window rattle, and reduced cold-weather exhaust drone. A minor residual vibration remained afterward, attributed to the rear motor mount specifically (not yet replaced in this combo) 2526.
Engine mount bearing — Джукм brand, ~2,500₽, typical lifespan 100,000 km: the engine mount support bearing (опора двигателя) from the Джукм brand costs roughly 2,500₽ (RU market) and typically lasts to about 100,000 km, though some cars keep the original to 200,000 km. Replacement or re-pressing becomes necessary once the rubber deteriorates; the part is available through repair shops 2728.
Engine mount silentblock replacement — requires destroying the old unit and a press tool: replacing the rubber silentblock insert inside an engine mount is not a simple pull-out job — the old unit must be destroyed by cutting the rubber and drilling out the retaining pin; simple press-out or pull methods do not work. A dedicated press tool is needed for the new insert; some shops substitute a drill/rotary tool. One mechanic (Сергей Елисеев) notes that because of the silentblock's thickness and the curved mounting surfaces, the replacement procedure also slightly shifts the engine's resting position 293031.
Rattle at 1800–2200 RPM after spring/spacer install — check mounts and exhaust: a rattle (дребезжание) appearing at 1800–2200 RPM on a manual-transmission car, present in all gears, that developed after installing front springs with 30mm spacers, was linked by the community to possible engine-mount stress or exhaust resonance rather than the springs themselves. Diagnostic clue: the noise occurs at constant throttle/RPM but disappears under acceleration (i.e. it tracks engine load, not road input) — check engine mounts first, then exhaust fastening and clearance points; spacers are suspected of increasing stress transmitted to the mounts. See also the cat converter dust-shield rattle for a related exhaust-side rattle source 32333435.
Another VW-fabrication success, plus Mazda hydro-mount pricing: another instance of the VW-donor fabrication approach already documented on this card: a owner successfully retrofitted a Mazda-type hydraulic mount by custom-fabricating from a VW-spec mount, taking dimensions off the OEM mount and modifying the VW part accordingly — cost for the VW donor mount was roughly ~880₽ (2024 pricing). As a simpler, no-fabrication alternative, genuine Mazda hydraulic mounts are also available, priced at 9,000–11,000₽ — versus the retrofit's much lower parts cost but added labor/fabrication effort 363738394041.
Left engine mount, automatic transmission only — part 5CA139070A, notoriously expensive: for automatic-transmission X80s specifically, the left engine mount part number is 5CA139070A. Owners describe it as strikingly expensive — one joked it costs "like an airplane wing" — making it a candidate for the cross-brand/fabrication alternatives documented elsewhere on this card before paying full OEM price 424344.
Owner customization — swapping a too-soft support cartridge for a stiffer polyurethane silent block: one owner (Victor) bought a soft engine-support cartridge (патрон) intended for the GG platform for 1,300₽ (RU market), but found it noticeably softer than the original worn mount he was replacing — "worse than the old stock one." He then bought a separate polyurethane silent block for 600₽, intending to press it into the mount housing himself to get a stiffer result, saying he personally prefers a firmer engine mount feel. This is a personal-preference data point rather than a recommended fix: it shows that not all aftermarket "GG-spec" mount cartridges match OEM stiffness, and that some owners deliberately trade ride comfort for a firmer, more performance-oriented mount using a cheaper polyurethane insert 45.
